Very disappointed with Next.
-
Yesterday I made a route of more than six hundred kilometers. It is a route that I have done more than once. The objective was to test Next thoroughly and really check its usefulness.
The result could not have been more disappointing. So much so that, already at home, I looked for the old TomTom to install it on the bike and abandoned Next.
The list of faults suffered were:
-Three crashes with blank screen.
-A hang up with red light indication of traffic light with radar.
-Switching to night mode at eleven in the morning crossing the city of Talavera.
-Blockage in screen rotation. Next remained vertical and forced me to restart the mobile -the rest of the applications rotated automatically-.
-Always, when passing a certain number of waypoints, it stops giving me its information.
-Many waypoints were passed and he didn't know. I had to tell it that I had passed it. And if I activate "Skip automatically" it skips them when I still have kilometers to go to the point.
That I had to stop the bike on yesterday's trip five times to restart the program or the phone makes using Next a nightmare. And, even though it's Gold, I'm afraid I'll abandon its use. That's how you stop enjoying a motorcycle trip.

@Maicro I’ll send you a message.
Thanks for sharing your experience, I would have hoped for a more positive conclusion but these are also important -

I changed motorcycles recently and had definitely ruled out TomTom. But it is impossible to embark on a journey like this. I hope they solve it. I want to continue driving Next. Thnaks!

One thunderstorm does not make one stop riding a bike...
One bad navigation experience should not make you abandon...@Maicro said in Very disappointed with Next.:

This, I perfectly understand, and explains why I used TomTom for my summer holidays this year. I just do not want to be confronted with navigation equipment ruining the driving.
However, this is a brand new product and it is unavoidable that it has some "undocumented features"
One should look at it with a forgiving eye, and count on user input leading to fast progress.

@Maicro
Try the GoRide app also from tomtom but free at charge and mydrive support, so loading routes/tracks is easy.
it is in development but has great potential! -

Muhaha, @Corjan-Meijerink equals "they".

TS is "complaining" about MRA Next being still in development, and yet here you are promoting or referring so to say, another app which is also still in development? Gosh.

Wow! First complaining about an app that is still beiing developed and in the same sentence refering to another app that is also "under construction".

Totally agree.

it is in development but has great potential!I have a TomTom Rider 450. The routes I navigated with it were done with MRA. It is very reliable. But it has been very limited with all the potential of Next.

The combination and integration of the MRA Routeplanner and the navigation NEXT app is a killer combination that is very hard to beat.
-
@Maicro maybe you should Explore the app a bit more RTFM and then decided if its good or not

Indeed. In fact, one of the errors makes me very angry. When I lose the waypoint name and description that I put as personal directions.

As soon as the offer to be a beta tester came out, I was happy to pay it. I have been trying different versions. And the bugs that I have reported have been partly due to the last update.
They are random glitches. I'm not talking about a specific configuration.

I am with you @Maicro. After my experience with MRA Next this past weekend on a 3-day trip I am abandoning Next at least until the next update. I have had multiple issues during my last three uses all while trying various tips and tricks provided here. I was really hoping Next would enable me to leave my TomTom at home but for now it cannot.
I had to dig out my TomTom Rider 400 yesterday and get it updated and current after not using it for almost a year. This also means I need to install the accessory mounts onto my new motorcycle to support that device, something I was hoping to not have to do. I will also need to move my routes from the HERE maps back to TomTom which can be time consuming for some of my routes.
And before people start ripping me, I have a lifetime MRA membership for more than 10 years or at whatever point they started offering lifetime memberships. I also bought the MRA Next lifetime membership last year when the new development efforts were announced. I'm sure the team will get it to where they envision they want it to go but right now, it is not stable enough to be relied on regularly.

@Lynchy67 this update is now in Beta phase and will be released to the public next week

You forgot to add "for me" at that sentence . Many have navigated long multiday trips without really serious issues. I did so even in the early May version. Many have even thrown away or sold off their zumo's and TT riders and never looked back. I won't say I never have issues with the app, but they were always solvable or worked around.
-
Sorry, that's me being selfish again.
I'll get my coat! -
@Lynchy67 hahah, no worries!
Just trying to make sure the general public doesn’t get confused by updates available to the earlier beta group
