Basic question from a long term owner but not enthusiastic user of MRA. I already have a route of 25 points (the Illinois portion of Route 66). If I add a waypoint via the "find a place" box does it not insert it in the existing route at the appropriate place or always at the end of the route.

      Thanks Jeff

        @Jeffrey-Kogler hai,

the appropriate place IS the end of the route from the software point of view but you can simply move the waypoint up to fit between two other waypoints by dragging and dropping in the menu on the left side in web MRA.

May I propose to spend an hour or two learnig how MRA works, just look at the video's and then make a test route and experiment with all available options and buttons. Your enthoesiasm will go up considerably after that.

@Drabslab enthusiasm remains low if adding lots of waypoints requires manually moving each one to its logical position on the route. A deal breaker.

@Jeffrey-Kogler There are plenty of methods in MRA to avoid having to manually move waypoints. The big point is that you should do the effort to learn about these methods and many other handy perks that come with MRA. The training video's are one way to do this, just playing around with MRA is another.

Hi Jeff. You can drag the new waypoint up to where it needs to go by clicking on it in the waypoints list and dragging it. Stick with it, it's a powerful tool. Good luck.

Go in between the two points on the line an drag it to someweher and come back to the line and leave it there. so you get it with the right position and right number.

I'm also a longtime owner AND user of MRA and I think is fun to play with it and learn to handle it pretty well.

@Nick-Carthew I think I know that. Let's say I have my Route 66 itinerary. I start with 25 basic waypoints covering cities from Chicago to Los Angeles. From my research I may wish to add in dozens if not hundreds of things along the way. All of those points will be added to the end of the itinerary and I have to manually place them in their respective locations by moving them in the waypoint list? I might just optimize the route after I've added the attraction waypoints but the optimization is has a "safe" limit of 21.

@Resler-Hans-Jürg I tried to follow your instructions but I'm not sure what you mean. What I got from dragging a point away and returning it to the line was a rerouting but no change in numbering?

@Drabslab yes I will study the application more. But this is a simple question and hoped there would be a simple direct answer. Any number of alternative web and pc based applications add new points in their correct location automatically without manual intervention most of the time.

@Jeffrey-Kogler If you use the search box to add a waypoint to an existing route, it will always be added to the end of the route.
Let’s say your entire route contains 25 waypoints and you want to add a destination via the search box. When you add it, that destination waypoint may be between waypoints 7 and 8 and it will be numbered 26. A quick workaround would be to drag the route a little by the newly added waypoint 26, this will add another waypoint that is correctly numbered (8) next to waypoint 26. Now delete waypoint 26.

@Nick-Carthew OK thank you Nick. the new correctly numbered waypoint name would have to be renamed to match the original intent though? I think you have basically answered my question though. Newly added waypoints are added to the end of the route itinerary and will not automatically adjust to a numbered position relative to the other waypoints on the route.

Looks like I use MRA to add waypoints via the Find place box, which appears to work very well, but do any automatic waypoint sorting and route optimisation in another app.

@Jeffrey-Kogler You could make a copy of your route (rename it to save confusion) and have it open in another tab on your pc for doing your searching on. Find your place on the search map and add it to your working map.

@Jeffrey-Kogler Hi Jeffrey, while not specifically a suggestion I've marked this as one, I hope you don't mind. This is because I haven't seen this before and I think it might be a good idea for the future. As others have pointed out, it's currently not possible to use the search function and then add the waypoint after a certain other waypoint. I hope that regardless of this you'll find ways to enjoy the benefits of MRA.

@Timo-Martosatiman-MRA thank you Timo for taking my question seriously. I have found some useful features for my specific situation. The speed of adding waypoints via the search box is one. Also since I am hoping to follow Route 66 as it was as far as practicable rather than the many bypasses that exist now, the ability to move the route in part to a different road is helpful. I've seen other apps with this but they generally do not work as smoothly as MRA.

@Jeffrey-Kogler Thank you for that compliment and thank you for explaining the ways that MRA is currently already beneficial to you. I'm happy to see that you think the routeplanner offers a smooth and simple experience (as the UI designer, this is of course the best compliment I can get).
