Integration of remote controllers
-
Until I'm waiting (since a while) about development for integration of remote controller Remote-2 from DMD (DriveModeDashboard), I have seen another methode to integrate several models of remote controllers to an App.
Currently, we have a solution in MyRoute-App settings, to select a remote controller which is going to be used:
But this means, for each new remote controller on the market, MyRoute-App developer team needs to develop on more integration. It looks like as extra effort and unnecessary.
On the other hand, the developer team of DMD2-App (DriveModeDashboard) used another idea:
instead of an extra integration for each additional remote controller, they developed a table in the GUI (Graphical User Interface) in which each user can set the desired actions of each buttons
themselves.
@Corjan-Meijerink please, what do you think about this Idea? Would you be able to create such a similar table to in MyRoute-App?
@all users in the community - please what's your opinion? If Corjan would be able and willing to create such a solution - would you prefer it, instead of current solution?

@Guzzist I think that the options you d’escrime will only work within DMD software. If you run MRA on a DMD device those settings are not active, as far as I know

You are right @Marinus-van-Deudekom the screenshot of development was from inside the DMD2 App. That's clear, it will not have any affect to MyRoute-App, running on a DMD device.
But my suggestion was, to develop something similar inside MyRoute-App only for this app itself, instead of single selectable hard coded settings for each remote controller model.

@Guzzist in that case I second your proposal

Just to add my thoughts.
I am very happy with the way that MRA and my SilverFox B8J controller work together. -

But there is no integration for my controller Remote-2 yet. And I wonder what the better way is to integrate new controllers in the future... -
Hi,
After using Tasker on Android to control Applications including Next, I think a better idea is the use of Intents to control Next.
They allow a standard way to accept commands from any other App.
But in case to use any other hardware button, the use of a custom table can work, but I think is a great effort to configure all commands in a app as Next. Only you have to note the different actions a controller can do selecting his type:

To be honest, I think the most consumer-friendly way to support controllers is for MRA to add them to their list. Unfortunately it can take a while before a new controller gets adopted into the software though. Many controllers have their own software to program their hardware, which would counter anything you program yourself into some table most people would see as a hassle. Also, there are already apps like Key Mapper for Android that are able to convert controller commands to app commands.

Hi Con, I understand your thoughts. And I believe, if you are talking about "programming" it would be seen as hassle by users.
But my Idea is a bit different: our developers should create and fill the table with standard values, sent by the controller. So, the user sould only select his model - and it'swell working. Same as currentl. But - this is the point - If a user is willing to simply select another possible action, a button should initiate - he can do it.
Because many offroad drivers needs a dedicated "handsome" remote controller for the purpose of event. So, not each and every controller has the buttons on the best position for the fingers.
So, it would be highly sufficient, if the user can decide in the table, which button of the controller should do p.e. zoom in at the map in the App.
