Position delay/lag quick fix - which app works, which do not?
-
Hi All,
As is quite familiar by know, several users are bothered by a position delay of the cursor/flyer in relation to the actual position the road. I was one of the first users here to confirm (back in spring 2023 or so) that running another GPS app, such as Flitsmeister in parallel to MRA Navigation Next almost completely solves this issue. At the time I was already relieved to find that FM worked a charm and did not look any further.
Since this issue has by now been identified to be caused by the HERE SDK, I've checked whether or not FM is the only app that shows improvements to the position delay.
I would like to ask all users that are familiar with this use, that is: they are still bothered with it, to check whether or not other GPS apps are also effective in signficantly reducing the position delay/lag.
These results may aid Corjan and HERE in finding the root cause.
Phone characteristics:
- Brand: OnePlus
- Type: OnePlus 6 (ONEPLUS A6003)
- OS version: Android 11, OxygenOS 11.1.2.2
- OS Build nr: ONEPLUS A6003_22_211125
I checked the following apps:
- Flitsmeister: delay gone
- Waze: delay gone
- TomTom MyDrive: no effect
- Google Maps: no effect
On behalf of us all: thanks

@Stefan-Hummelink, I thought it made no difference as to which other app you have running, as long as they use the Google location service? I'll gather some info.

Google location servic
This on its own would be contradicted by the fact that running GMaps in parallel did nothing at all for the delay on my OP6.

First case is in, my wife
Phone characteristics:
- Brand: Oppo
- Type: A72 (CPH2067)
- OS version: Android 11, ColorOS 11.1
FlitsMeister seems to help, but we have to check again.
-
Second case in, my son
Phone characteristics:
- Brand: Motorola
- Type: G73 (XT2237-2)
- OS version: Android 13
Flitsmeister active in background does not help.
-
Third case in, a friend
Phone characteristics:
- Brand: Oppo
- Type: A5 (CPH1931)
- OS version: Android 10, ColorOS7.1
GMaps seems to help a bit, Flitmeister not tried yet.

@Stefan-Hummelink, I think the devices chipset could be a big deal for this problem. But that is more difficult to ask for.

Indeed, if the HERE dev's think that may be a good to know, they can extract it based on our provided model info :).

@Stefan-Hummelink, exactly.

FM is not available in my area, j found that running a Speedometer app in the background fixes the issue.

Hahahaha Although it was the idea to post the phones that do have a delay, your response is always welcome ...

The GPS receiver is in most cases a part of the phones SOC.
The cause is probably the SOC software together with Here software
You need to build a large database with Phones specs and which has the problem or not. From there Here needs to do some fixes.
Sadly there are to much different phones in use to build a proper database on this forum. My Input:
I use Android Auto which uses the Goldwings GPS receiver.
This one is most of the time a bit behind. How much?
Mostly 20-50 meters but sometimes up to 200 meters. -

Haha ya, for sure. This was an initial attempt.

Here also on both an iPhone SE 2020 and a Google Pixel 7, there is a significant delay and therefore worthless to start and promote use in our Oldtimer Club.
If there is a solution please do, because this makes all other great solutions within MRA unusable. -

Awesome! This is the kind of information that may be useful for @Corjan-Meijerink to feedback to HERE, or HERE can read this forum thread haha.

With genuine enthusiasm I can announce that the position delay will be fixed in the upcoming 4.1.3 update!
Thanks for testing @Stefan-Hummelink
He had an Android device that displayed the issue consistently and now that is gone! Therefore I can only conclude that our efforts were not in vain! -
