MyRoute-App does not work on Caretta
-
The official answer is that we are absolutely clueless. I’ve received the Caretta myself and have zero issues.
Then there are users reporting this. Which is completely mind blowing. We are clueless what the cause could be.
Carpe Iter is investigating hardware issues and other weird users reports. Such as that users who configures GPS update intervals to 10hz having a big issues whereas the default 1hz works flawlessly.
It’s not that I’m pointing to Carpe Iter to solve the problem but it’s not as simple that we can just easily solve it

We have zero pointers what the issue could be. Literally the version installed on Caretta works without a single issue on the Carpe Iter Tab. We just build an app for Android and then suddenly it does not work well on their new device. When I then test their device it works perfectly.
Feel free to forward this message (and my reply) to Carpe Iter. Them saying “ask MRA” is way too short sighted. Mention my name and “Jan” and I am sure they will want to know your exact Caretta configuration.
All parties are dedicated to solve this issue

It might not be the exact same problem, but I'm sharing a similar frustrating experience in case it helps.
Something similar happened to me with the Hugerock X7. After much discussion with Hugerock's technical support, they sent me a modified firmware and the problem was solved.

@ Corjan: Thank you for your feedback, Corjan. It gives me hope that the issue can be resolved. As you suggested, I have forwarded your feedback to the Carpe Iter team.
@ Nick: Nick, it doesn't seem possible to uninstall the app completely, only the updates, which I did. I also deleted the cache and all data. After reinstalling via the Play Store, there were no changes — all the issues are still there.
I tried your recommendation of saving the log files by long-pressing the app version number, but even after 30 seconds, nothing happened. Is there another 'trick'?
Cheers

Markus@Markus-Hellenthal-Dr. I think there is more to this issue than I first thought. @Corjan-Meijerink is the developer of the app and I would Follow his advice.

@Corjan-Meijerink: With Claude’s help, I analysed the potential error that occurs when launching navigation in the MyRoute app on my Caretta, based on the log files. Here are two excerpts:
GnssManager: registration 10065/com.cloudmax.myrouteapp/65A63BD4 removed GnssManager: registration 10065/com.cloudmax.myrouteapp/706B0882 removed GnssManager: registration 10065/com.cloudmax.myrouteapp/FB989726 removed GnssManager: registration 10065/com.cloudmax.myrouteapp/65A63BD4 removed GnssManager: registration 10065/com.cloudmax.myrouteapp/706B0882 removed GnssManager: registration 10065/com.cloudmax.myrouteapp/FB989726 removed
This means: The app registers with the GPS system but is immediately logged out again – precisely at the moment when navigation should start. This is most likely the cause of the error.
PackageConfigPersister: App-specific configuration not found for packageName: com.cloudmax.myrouteapp
This suggests that a device-specific configuration for the app is missing.
According to Claude, the result is as follows:
• Problem: GnssManager registrations are removed immediately after navigation starts
• Logcat entries: GnssManager: registration com.cloudmax.myrouteapp removed
• Also: PackageConfigPersister: App-specific configuration not found
• Other navigation apps (Google Maps, TomTom, DMD2, Locusmaps) work perfectly
• App was freshly installed from the Play Store, all permissionsPerhaps this specific technical information will help pinpoint the problem, and hopefully it can be resolved quickly in a future app update.
@ Corjan: You’d already mentioned the GPS connection. I haven’t made any changes to that on my Caretta. Perhaps this specific technical information will help pinpoint the problem, and hopefully it can be resolved quickly in a future app update.
I send this information to Carpe Iter, too.
Cheers

Markus@Markus-Hellenthal-Dr. Interesting.
Our apps does exactly the same as it does on every Android device and I don’t see these issues on our test Caretta
Regarding GNSS, they do manage that on hardware level and even mentioned changes in the latest OS update: https://carpe-iter.com/caretta-initial-os-update/

A little kick. I am in de proces of buying a different bike. This means also buying a different navigation device. The Caretta is one of the options on my shortlist.
What is the current situation of MRA of the Caretta. Is it just as reliable as MRA on other devices or has the combination Caretta and MRA still some quirks. -

Markus@Dr.-Markus-Hellenthal Hi, have you sorted this issue yet?
I am having the same problem as you with my MRA/Caretta combination (all software up to date, obviously). The app is very slow to load and to load routes. Navigation is severely impaired by the GPS tracking often being 50-100m behind. It just feels "wrong". By comparison, I used Google maps today and the GPS tracking was perfect.
Many thanks. -
What setting do you for GPS accuracy?
Read some info that MRA, but not only MRA, some issues has with the highest setting. -

Many thanks.Hi,
No, the problem has not been solved. I have reset my Caretta twice, no improvement. I have the impression that there seems to be a hardware - software communication issue. My Caretta, i. e. NGH as well as MRA need up to one hour to get a satellite connection and looses it from time to time. Strangely, Google Maps works without any issue.
Cheers
Markus
