Calculator - floating window, greater productivity

I made a search referencing the calculator - which I find both very useful and really frustrating.
The frustration comes from the modal nature of the calculator window. Every calculation requires a start from scratch.
Also, if I want to calculate from point 50 to point 100, why do I have to start the second part from point 1?
The planner side of things in general is lagging behind and in my opinion is letting MRA down. It's high time for a little love in this direction.
It seems to me that it would be an easy item (low hanging fruit) to make the calculator window floating - and that would be a real boon in use.
