Re: Outreach to Sygic in light of connectivity issues

The long outstanding problem of porting MRA-created routes from the MyRoute-App direct into the Sygic app, is still a problem.

From what I can see from the referenced old thread, MRA blames Sygic and Sygic blames MRA. Having reached out to Sygic, I have no doubt that the problem lies at their end.

TIMO - Any traction on fixing this problem?

Resolving this would be of major benefit to Ducati owners - e.g.: https://youtu.be/V7wQXOQP7tQ

I would urge yu to please reach out to them again. Many thanks.

      @richard-dunn

Hi @Richard-Dunn do you use a route or a track?
      A track should work

        @hans-van-de-ven-mra-master

In the meantime I have asked Sygic. Here is the answer:

        Thank you for contacting Sygic.

Unfortunately, importing routes from external sources is not supported from our side in the current Sygic app versions. It is not possible to use downloaded or created route files (e.g. in the .GPX format) nor any 3rd party software for importing routes (e.g. ITN Converter).

You can plan a route online using our own route planner tool and then send it via email to your device which has Sygic GPS Navigation by following the guide we prepared on our help website:
        https://help.sygic.com/en/sygic-gps-navigation-for-android/tips-tricks/how-to-use-the-route-planner-tool-on-the-website.

If you have any other question, or need any further assistance, just reply to this message, I’ll be happy to help.
Thank you very much and have a nice day!
        Best regards,

        Kindly regards
        Reinhard

Thanks @Reinhard-32 , Too bad they closed the upload option. They seem to want Sygic users to only use their own software.

Except for THEY HAVE NO own route planning software!
They are referring to Google Maps for planning routes, with a maximum of 10 stops. If that is meant as 10 waypoints, that is essentially degrading Sygic to AtoB nav ONLY.
Too bad, since the navigation app itself is a great example to MRA of what Navigation could become...

@con-hennekens Well, they do claim they have one...

                https://www.sygic.com/blog/2018/web-route-planner-plan-your-routes-in-smarter-ways

but from the embedded video it does indeed appear as being nothing else than Google.

I expect that their navigation software has similar limitations?

Again, and repeating myself (probably to the devastation of some 🙂 ) in my opinion MRA should devote its time on making a "full navigation stack" from first planning to final navigation, and travel recording in its own ecosystem, and not worry too much about what others do.

@drabslab, I see, you have to really spit through the website to find that. That blog is 4 years old. I checked their planner, but if this is how far they have come in 4 years, MRA has nothing to fear 😉

The navigation app itself though is a different story. MRA could use Sygic as the benchmark. Navigation works for me, but Sygic clearly is on a higher level with their navigation app.

That "full Navigation stack" you are talking about, isn't that exactly what they are doing? Being compatible with other devices is no limitation in my opinion, As long as their own Navigation app can take full advantage of al functions.

@con-hennekens We totally agree on this one and yes, we are all in breathless anticipation of what the MRA planning will look like (and very impatient to find out as holding my breath for too long ain't healthy 🙂 ).

Being compatble with other tools is indeed no limitation, as long as it does not prevent moving forwards.

As one example: there was a discussion here where somone claimed that the navigation app does not have a folderstructure because carplay (i think it was) does not cater for a folderstructure. If this would be correct (i have no way of finding out) then MRA stops/slows down its evolution based on limitations imposed by another company. And that's bad.

That being said, making a roadmap is extremily complex, it is even more complex to follow the roadmap.

Kurviger has the ability to export to sygic. Import the route into Kurviger and then export as sygic format.

Yes I saw that, but I cannot believe that is true. MRA Navigation is much older that the carplay compatibility, and the folderstructure was not there in the first place, so that cannot be linked. Also I think it would be peanuts to present a folder stucture to Navigation, while presenting a folderless structure to Navigation on Carplay.

I am afraid this kind of backward engineering is prone to incompatibility each update of Sygic. These kind of solutions require continues effort of developers to keep it working. It would be so nice if Sygic and MRA would be working together. There can be learned a lot from both.

@con-hennekens I have asked Sygic again about the route import. Here the answer:

                            • Yes, this route import is in the plan for the development.
Although, we would like to ask for your patience, as we can't confirm when, or even promise it will be added to the app anytime soon.*
