Shaping Point text question.
-
In the route planner it’s possible to add a name and note to a shaping point but this text doesn’t appear when navigating with the app, is this only available with a Via Point?
-
@Rob-Kelley Select All in navigation settings > Screen layout > Waypoints.
-
@Nick-Carthew thanks, I did wonder if it was a setting somewhere.
Which text field will it display, Name or Notes? -
@Rob-Kelley Both, but it won’t display or announce if the name box contains numbers as it will consider it as an address.
-
@Nick-Carthew I just want text along the lines of ‘optional right turn for quicker route to cafe’.
That’ll work using the Name box? -
@Rob-Kelley It would work yes.
What I would do is have Route option in the name box. And then Turn right for shortcut to cafe in the note box.
The reason for this is to keep the name short and sweet, this way you can read it all in the waypoint list. -
I often place shortcuts in routes using the same method. "Skip to Waypoint XX will save you 45 minutes and 35 kilometers". I use the cube pause symbol for this. It shows 3 faces. One is where you come from, the other two are both options (detour or not). A specific detour symbol would be nice

45 minutes and 35
I'd like to add that one shall prevent the use of numbers in the note field if one expects the note to be called out through the text-to-speech engine. Notes with numbers in them will not be spoken. Rather use fourtyfive and thirtyfive instead.

@Stefan-Hummelink definitely not!
Numbers in note are always added by the user and thus spoken.If the title (and only title) contains a number we assume it’s an address and hence not spoken.
Adding a note is always the suggested way and that’s what @Con-Hennekens does -

Yes, you know my methods well

Oh gosh, I stand corrected by the master himself. Though, I was absolutely certain this was somehow the case before, but mistook it for both title and note I suppose. Now I can at least use numbers myself again, instead if writing out the number in text. Doh.
