Cool, planning a route in this way is a great idea. I'll try it out for Ireland straight away. Thanks for the idea.

Impressive. I will try to make a route including a powerpoint presentation of the motor holidays I'm planning (Cornwall and Latvia). I'm very curious.

        Thanks for sharing this!

It's amazing what AI can do but personally I prefer to create my routes the old fashioned way. Doing it the old fashioned way I get to learn about areas and roads that I will be travelling on. For me, planning the route is almost as nice as riding the route.

I fully agree with you. For me the pleasure starts by making the routes. But aside from the old fashioned way, I certainly will look at AI supported options. Just to go outside my bubble (comfort zone).

Thank you for sharing the video and the interesting ideas around using AI to create routes and holidays.

I am experienced in creating my own routes, but the video and good subtitles of explanation, has helped me to understand what AI (something I am very new to) can do to help me.

What is impressive is the speed with which AI gives the suggestions and its ability to then put the suggestions into other formats, like MyRoute and the PowerPoint document.

              Richard

PS It was amusing that the AI told you to recheck the weather forecast in April. Very good advice, sounding almost human.

Thanks or the video, pretty interesting. I'd just like AIs to be more reliable, as my first experiment didn't give me (once again) useful results...

I asked a route from Livorno to Bereguardo, 4h long, no highways. So I should go north, but the first suggested waypoint was south of Livorno 🤣 And after removing the bogus waypoints and completing the route, it resulted in a 6:30 hours trip 🤦

Still a pretty interesting tool, hopefully it will improve...

Edit: digging a little deeper, looks like a 4h trip on that route is just impossible, so ChatGPT simply suggests me wrong routes instead of telling me it can't calculate such a trip

The trick is to give much information about what you want. The more details you give to AI, the better the result.

yeah, but you also have to be careful about giving it something impossible to create, because it will just lie

Or in modern terms it will 'hallucinate'!

                      A lovely word:
'Hallucination is the experience of perceiving something that does not exist...'

                        Hi - A brilliant suggestion.

I'd been using Microsoft Co-Pilot in a similar way for some time, to gain suggestions for stop offs, good roads across mountain areas etc.

However, Co-Pilot says it can't generate GPX files.

I tried the same thing in Chat-GPT and we're away. A great way to generate a base route to be modified.

Cheers and thanks for the post, Jem
