Make locking the screen easier
-
Hi
When riding and it starts to rain I need to lock the Next/Nav screen but this is too fiddly whilst riding.
Can a padlock be added to the nav screen which will take a simple tap to lock the screen and have it as an optional feature under the settings so it can be removed when not wanted?
Thanks -
@Rob-Kelley It’s only two taps to do this now.
First tap to open navigation menu, second tap to lock the screen. -
@Rob-Kelley yeah, sorry. Won't dedicate a permanent on screen button for this

@Nick-Carthew I know how to it but when I'm wearing thick gloves and doing 70 on a motorway in the rain and snow (yesterday going to the NEC) it's dangerous to try and do this.
Not everyone has a large screen and remote control, I'm using an iPhone and the text is small and almost impossible to select with big gloves on. -
@Rob-Kelley Screen space is valuable, so as Corjan has said none will be used for a lock button.
You could always set the lock before you leave, especially if you expect to see some of the wet stuff. -
Maybe a double-tap on a non-map area of the screen?
Like the directions area, top left, which is an easy area to aim for during a ride/drive.
A nice bright confirmation popup saying 'Locked' could let the user know the double-tap has worked.
It would also be wise to add a new Setting option to actively enable it just in case innocent new users starting double-tapping randomly, and lock the app.

@Nick-Carthew Ref screen space, it depends on the device being used and as I suggested to have this as an optional object so it can be hidden or shown in the same way some of the other objects are such as Current Road, etc.
Currently it takes 3 taps on my iPhone 14 Pro:
1: Tap the 3 dot menu button which is often hidden so hope I'm tapping in the right place,
2: Scroll down the menu,
3: Tap Lock Screen (2nd from the bottom).
This then places a padlock on the screen to be able to unlock it, why not keep this padlock on the screen when it's unlocked and simply tap it to lock/unlock? it doesn't use much space.Considering UK law on phone use I really feel having to take eyes off the road for the amount of time to do this is not good and risks a heafty 6 points and fine, yes this will still be the case for one tap but much less likely to be caught as it'll only take a second to do.

@Rob-Kelley The developer of the app has already stated that there'll be no on screen button for this.
If you’re concerned about having your collar felt by the boys in blue, lock your screen before leaving, or invest in some bar buttons. -
@Nick-Carthew I'm sure he'll still be open to use case scenarios/persuasion as all good software devlopers are, or go with another idea as suggested by richtea999 above.

@Rob-Kelley On Android there's an app called Touch Lock that overlays a lock button. Just tried it and it works with MRA. Maybe something similar for iPhone??
I tend to agree it would be a useful feature in MRA tho, DMD2 has it.

@Neil-q
I've tried iOS Guided Access which kinda works but it's a bit fiddly to enable/disable by triple tapping the side button and it overlays a grey semi transparent box. -
@Rob-Kelley There’s a new feature on its way (now in test in beta). Just two little clicks to lock and only one click to unlock.

good news, thanks for the update.

It's already live in update 4.3.4
The button has been moved up in the menu or long press the menu button itself (while navigating) to lock the screen. -
