Mobile Phone Battery usage - Any News??
-
The battery usage when using the Navigation App is terrible. When cycling I can connect my phone to my ebike. The battery still runs down on my phone, but not as fast. However what is more worrying is that the range on my ebike is reduced by 15%. For example a ride which the bike would consume 35% battery, when using the app will consume 42%. Is there going to be any improvement in this area? I have read the threads on here but they haven't been posted on for a while, so I thought I would open a new thread. Unless you have a good external power source, the Nav App is useless; it works well otherwise. I have now adjusted the settings in the app to be like the ones suggested in the other threads and will see how that goes.

@Chris-Thorpe I experience the same problems. What settings have you adjusted to prevent drainage of the battery?
-
HERE is working on the issue but yes, it takes quite a while.
However the battery drain is caused by active turn-by-turn navigation. This however is not available for cyclists so I guess you are driving on your bike while navigating a route not for bicycles

@Corjan-Meijerink
Hi Corjan,
My phone: Samsung S22 Ultra
My settings in MRA Next: Driving modus: Motocycle
I have downloaded the Dutch maps in case I need to switch to offline mode.
The phone is connected via USB-C and when I drive routes with MRA Next the battery still drains and the percentage of power drops gradualy . When I stop using MRA Next and I switch over to Google Maps the battery percentage starts to increase again.
What is your advice ? -
@Leen-Hoek nothing really
We hope the issues gets resolved but it’s taking a long time.Minimising other apps / enabling battery saving mode helps quite often.

Using MyRoute Navigation on my iPhone SE20 (connected by a usb cable and a powerpoint on my Ducati Multistrada) has never led to a insufficiënt charged device.
-
@Rob-Veerman one of the lucky ones.....
-
Sometimes when I use the MRA app on my Motorbike the phone will not keep up with the charging and other times it will stay 100% charged I cant see why it is different at times.
-
I have the same problem.
The app works well, there are still a few small problems but nothing that can't be solved. But unfortunately the power consumption is terrible. With the power bank plugged in, the battery level on my iPhone drops significantly. The phone gets very hot and I think navigation will stop after three hours.
That means I'll have to look for another solution for my upcoming vacation. My TomTom Go works for hours, even without a power bank.
If it's the maps, I'd switch to TomTom anytime, as they're more accurate and easier to read anyway.I hope you get this under control, otherwise many users will look for something else

@Leen-Hoek I foundthis on the forum, scroll down to the settings. I haven't tried them yet though so can't comment.

@Corjan-Meijerink I can't believe my little Google pixel 2 is using 5 miles worth of my ebike battery, that's quite a lot of power usage, especially as I let the bike do most of the work . It does get warm too.
-
@Chris-Thorpe Thanks for sending me this thread. I made some adjustments and next week I will try them out. I'll keep you posted if it brings any improvements.
-
@Corjan-Meijerink I have seen your comment that HERE were working on the battery usage last year but I had the same issue this week. From reading other comments do I take it that if I use the TomTom map the battery usage may be better??
-
@Paul-Smith-b the Tomtom can be used for planning route but the MyRoute-app always uses Here for Navigation.
-
This is really a point
the battery consumption is almost unacceptable.
Last week, while riding 4 days Tracks in the Eifel, I decided after lunch to continue riding with the Tomtom go Ride app.
because even with my phone on the charger the battery drained so quickly that I was afraid it would otherwise Die halfway through the day -
@RetiredWingMan ah I see thanks. So clearly won’t make any difference to battery usage !
-
This post is deleted! -
@Erik-35 yes that’s exactly what happened to me, my phone went dead halfway through the day. So I lost both the use of my phone and my satnav via my CarPuride unit. Luckily I was able to get some charge at my lunch stop but it’s really not good enough!
-
@Paul-Smith-b Agree, I never use MRA, have gone back to Waze. The battery usage is a massive flaw and has been going on for far too long.
-
@Paul-Smith-b if you use Carpuride why would you leave thé screen of your phone. Put it in thé trunk and connect it to a usb power source and save a lot of battery time on your cell
