So... if I tell MRA Navigation Next to use the offline maps, will it still get/update traffic?

@Peter-Huppertz, yes. The only ways not getting traffic info is by not having an internet connection, or enabling offline navigation in the settings. As a sidenote: you will either way not (yet) get alternate suggestions while navigating. It only effects (re)calculation.

          @Con-Hennekens ... ok, now I'm confused. 😶
So, if I enable offline use, I will not get traffic updates even if I have a working data connection?

@Peter-Huppertz, Yes... You are telling the app to NOT use the internet connection 😉

@Con-Hennekens Thanks, that confirms my suspicion.

I was actually hoping to be able to cut down on the data usage by having the map available locally, and only using the data connection for traffic updates.

"You can't have your cake and eat it too", I guess. 😉

@Peter-Huppertz If you have the maps of your regions available offline, the app will use those maps instead of going online to render them. This will result in reduced data usage.

@Rob-Verhoeff Yes, I got that. The only thing is that this will block any traffic updates as well, which is a bit of a pity.

@Peter-Huppertz In online mode, offline availible maps will reduce data usage!

                        ... um, help?

@Rob-Verhoeff says that, if you have offline navigation switched off, Navigation-Next will still use offline maps of you have it.

In last week's webinar, @Corjan-Meijerink told us that of you enable offline use, you do not get traffic information (which, to a point, is understandable). But I also heard that, to use the offline maps you downloaded, you have to switch on "Enable offline use", or it will still use the online maps.
That contradicts what Rob told me.

                        Soooooo...
This morning, I rode off to work. I did not have "Offline navigation" checked.
Some 10 kilometers in, I suddenly got a message "Switching to online navigation" or something line that (sorry, I don't have pen and paper ready when riding a motorcycle). And at the same time, a new traffic incident appeared.

This SEEMS to indicate that Rob was right after all. Which makes me wonder: dear people who can peer at the code, what is the final word on this?

To me it sounds as if you did not download the routes. To fully navigate a route offline you also need to download the route. When the route opens in the app, press the download button (arrow pointing down), choose the first option Make offline available and press the yellow download button. With the offline map, downloaded route and app set to navigate offline you are now ready.
