I headed out one day on a road I've travelled a 100 times. I noticed a detour on the route ahead. Sure enough, when I got there, the road was closed. Something similar on my trip out east. Planned months ago, a few days before we left, one of the routes had been changed. I suspected due to forest fires. On the day we headed that way the route was open again.

    Everything worked great.

The issue is when there is an unplanned road closure. Then I need to tell the app to reroute but I don’t think I can….

@Mark-Bowles, I just choose another direction and and see what the app suggests.

@Con-Hennekens generally, what the app suggests is turn around and go back to the original route!

@Mark-Bowles, we have an auto-skip function for that.

                Hi Con-Hennekens,

I had this issue today with an unforeseen road being closed. Can you pls. explain to me how this auto-skip functionality works? I toolkit another turn, that was possible and MRA tried to route me back all the time, then I manually skipped the next via point, but it joust got confused still trying to route me via the closed road. I had. Then to randomly go quite some kilometers the ‚wrong‘ way until it reroutet me to the next waypoint. That is not very convenient.
Besides, if ma via points are 15-20 km distance from each other that will entirely mess up my route.
Two of my other Navi apps, have a closed route functionality, where I tell it how many kilometers it should re-route before guiding me back to the original route.. Values are: 1, 2, 5, 10, 15, 20 km - then the apps know, the original route is closed for this part

@Adam-Sobanski, Don't use via points but shaping points. Via points are NOT skipped bij the autoskip function, shaping points are (via points have the hand-symbol). If you skip a shaping point (auto or by hand) you are directed to the next shaping point in the quickest possible way. If that is through the skipped shaping point, that's just what it is. Also that is an indication that you actually placed enough shaping points. If this function messes up your route, that is just an indication of NOT enough shaping points.

It is actually quite funny to see how some feel a need for the auto skipping function to be infallible while others feel the need to switch it and recalculation off altogether 😉

@Con-Hennekens actually I have had all my points having set as shaping points (the reverse drop symbol) - still I I want a re-route of a closed road in MRA I have to drive randomly another direction w/o knowing if this is the right one, hoping its the right one, This can lead to routing back to a closed route a few times - that#s too much try & error for my taste

@Adam-Sobanski, It is what it is. If a closure is not processed in the map, there is not much any navigation software can do to avoid it.

you are right, the navi software cannot help to avoid it but it can help to find a way around it. Calimoto and Scenic for instance allow you to stop at the unexpected closure, tell the app:

                        • The route is closed here
                        • It closed for 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 kilometers

It will take this distance into account to find a way around this closed part of the road --> no random try&error forcing the App to finally re-calculate in a meaningful way.
MRA does constantly try to guide me back to my route as this is likely the best route to the next and may be nex+1 shaping point.

Normally, any roadworks that have been in place for some time will have diversion signs to follow, just follow the signs. You can choose to show your original route in the Navigation settings > Screen layout. This shows your original route in white letting you know when you have re-joined.

                            @Nick-Carthew
Yep, that will certainly work but not necessarily in the most elegant way as:

                            • I am driving mostly lowest category of roads where diversion signs are not always there or not always clear
                            • diversion signs typically show the way to a town / village - I am not learning by heart through which villages my route is - so I do not easily know which diversion sign to follow
                            • in many cases the village on the diversion sign is not even on my route - that would result in additional loop way
                            • I am riding a motorcycle so my goal is not a village but a route

I think these (any may be other reasons) were sufficiently important for (at least motorcycle) navi app developers to build in the 'closed route' functionality to increase user experience

@Adam-Sobanski, I have never seen any unexpected closures of which I knew the distance of closure up front. Usually I drive into the closure if possible, most of the time it is not a real problem for motorbikes.

I am just an enthusiastic MRA user, and hope you will be one too!
