The CarPlay seems to be working well for me. I wouldn’t even really need to have the phone in my view. It’s mainly for cooling and vibration protection that I am considering mounting it with a vibration dampener.

I’ve thought about keeping the old phone for navigation, but then I’d need a separate subscription on that for data and I would lose the phone functionality of the CarPlay as obviously my main number would then be on the phone not connected to the CarPlay device.

You could take a look at the Carpuride W702plus witch is a device that doesn't need a phone to get it working

Maybe in the future, if they make a version that fits the BMW navi mount and interacts in one way or another with the wonder wheel.
For now, the CarPlay way of working fits my bill.

I recommend the iPhone solution in the BMW Cradel supplemented with the Remotek One solution.

I use Quadlock chargeable mount with the ani-vibration attachment with my Samsung S25 Ultra. I used to mount it in the center right between the bar mounts and plug it into the USB port with the coiled cable.
But if I mount my small tank bag onto the tank, there is no room to put that mount on unless the bag is slid all the way back (I don't like it). So, yes, in the summer heat if I put my phone in the tank bag it gets hot. For now my soulution is a couple of small frozen plastic cooler sticks in a ziplock bag. Helps for a while.

Positive emotions are worth every penny ;)

That's why I went into the Oukitel RT3 tablet solution, which is chip and works very well. Another possibility could be a special phone only for the navigation purpose, not your main one. It was too complicated for me to use android auto/apple carplay on my bike.

Well maybe you can use a handle bar mount (and change your handlebar bag?) or otherwise maybe a mirror mount?
When riding in the rain and you have your phone exposed at the mirror you experience problem with water in your phone.

In general, i have some experience with Quadlock and in general there sturdy en good mounts.
You can also look at Evotech. Maybe they have a solution for you.

I'm using MRA Next on an iPhone with a Carpuride display through Carplay. So essentially, I don't need my phone mounted on the motorcycle while riding.

To keep the phone's battery up, I hook it up to a battery pack and place it in the handlebar bag that I have on my R1200GS.

The combination of workload (GPS+Carplay) and charging results in the phone becoming quite hot, with the heat unable to discipate as it is placed in a enclosed bag.

Secondary, recently the OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) of my iPhone broke. I am unsire if this is now the result of vibrations with it being placed in the handlebar bag, or just age/bad luck with the phone now 6 years old.

I'm likely to buy a new iPhone later this year and naturally want to protect it from overheating and hardware issues, so I started looking at Quad Lock mounting options. The assumption being that using a mount (including vibration dampener) would allow the phone to cool better as a result of air flow during riding.

Wether having the phone loosely in a handlebar bag is worse than having it mounted on a vibration dampener is a big unknown.

Looking at the different Quad Lock mounting options, the most obvious choices are not an option in my case:

                • The handlebar is covered by the bag
                • The carpuride is mounted on the BMW Nav cradle, so that bar is also not an option

I am now considering the Brake/Clutch Mount but I have found very little examples of actual use online. So I was wondering: are people here using Quad Lock (or other) phone mounts other than the more common handlebar mount?

                Hi Kirsten
I use the brake/clutch mount on my bike. That has the rubber ball at the end on witch I've mounted the wireless mount from Quad Lock. Is very steady and did me give no problems what do every. On the Quad Lock my Samsung s24fe is mounted

I heard/read of cases where the rubber off the ball adapter (https://www.quadlockcase.eu/collections/shop-mounts/products/1-ball-adaptor-motorcycle) desintegrated.
Additionally I’d prefer an option that is more fixed instead of ram Mount based.

The clutch/brake mount from quad lock does not appear to use a rubber ball.

As I remember it had some system updates. I don't expect too much as it is used ony for the navigation and just works fine for less then 200 EUR.

No, in the BMW Cradel the mobile phone is inductively charged while driving.

A tip you should start with a full cell phone.

My camera on the iPhone Xr is after now approx. 3 years still okay, and the iPhone 16e will eventually be replaced, currently have it as my main mobile phone and the camera is also very robust. Is always in the tank bag and there connected to USB. The 16e is hotspot for the Xr that without Sim everything works very well.

From my point of view much better than anything with CP or AA.

The crowning glory is the Remotek One, so skip WP with double click if it just doesn't fit, all without stopping.

                        VG 👋

                        ——-

Fun to see how everyone has a different personal preference 🙂

I actually like the Carpuride. Only got it last year, simply fits in the Nav cradle that was already there and I'm used to CarPlay as I use that in the car as well.
My old eyes can certainly also do with the bigger screen.

Only thing I sometimes miss is an easy way to zoom in or out, as I could do with the wonder wheel on the BMW Navigator, but I'd rather not do any sort of big investment.

Having looked further into the matter, I could also contemplate just keeping the old phone when I do eventually get a new one. Just leave it in the handlebar bag connected to the battery pack and use it as source for the CarPlay for Nav and music. The camera's already f'd up now anyway 🙂 According to the OS, the battery health is still above 90% even though almost any app (even intensive browsing) will cause it to become seering hot these days.

Hotspot from the new phone could be one way to go, but then I'd have to keep both phones charged. But apparently there are also eSims available with a non-expiring amount of data (such as bnesim.com) that could do the trick for me.

Much to think about between now and when the new iPhone gets released.
