Starting point?
-
Hello friends,
What is the benefit of denoting my starting waypoint as the "Starting Point"?
This may or may not be relevant to the question, but yesterday I had a problem with a custom route I created in MRA and was navigating via Android Auto on my bike. Right from the get-go, the nav wanted to u-turn me back around. So I was finally able to skip next waypoint and get back on track. It's as if the nav didn't recognize that my starting waypoint, which was my home address, had been touched, and it wanted to take me back there.
I have a big trip coming up, with 20 days of custom routes, so if there's anything I can do to avoid this happening "out there", I sure would like to know now.
Thanks,
Jim O'Dowd

First step: Try this: https://www.myrouteapp.com/support
Hint:
Always make the first Waypoint reachable, you cannot skip it while you ride.
Look for the Parameter when starting: First waypoint at home, next waypoint when riding the route again while on the way.
Look for that in Dokumentation

Agree with @Rainer-Treichel !
Also, make sure your start point is placed a bit further away than your actual start point. For the same reason as already mentioned.

Destination (last point of route) point further away than start point

Nevertheless, I have already had a few times the opportunity riding on my motorbike and using AA to skip the first point ! So it is possible in certain situations.

Of course you can skip it manually, and of course it get's skipped when you "hit" it.
It just does not get auto-skipped when you do NOT hit it (since it is a VIA point).@Jim-O-Dowd, If you place your starting point on your doorstep, it is likely that when ride off you missed it, because you are not driving through it. Therefore place your first waypoint a bit further in your route to make sure you will drive through it. Usually Leaving out your doorstep, and consider WP2 to be the starting point is just fine, because the app will navigate you to it anyway. Often when sharing routes it is not nice to have everyone knowing where you live anyway

@Con-Hennekens nog for you Con but for the others. If you enable starting from the nearest point on the route, it doesn't really matter where nr 1 is located

@Marinus-van-Deudekom, True, but also that depends... Starting points are often locations where people gather for driving a tour. That's the reason it is always a VIA point, because you don't want to skip the chitchats before starting a route

Friends,
Thanks for the help. I went back and re-set all starting points a short distance along the route, but away from my actual start point. Thanks again.
