And maybe some users need to be protected against themselves? 😉

Indeed. That's why it is important a route stops when it ends
I've seen what happens when people who are not familiar enough with navigation. They just ride and follow the navigation and keep on riding in circles.
When navigation stops on your endpoint. You know are there where you want or need to be.

@Con-Hennekens said in When you reach your destination you have to cancel navigation manual:

It is a lot more extra steps if you need to restart the route manually while riding.

I don't get this one. Like i said a route ends when it's end. Normally that's on a location where you want or need to be. Why do you need to start the navigation again on that location?

I think there are more important issues at the moment.

Yes, a proper recalculation procedure. The current one is not good enough.

@M-Schrijver if you are unsatisfied with the waypoint skip algorithm, you can turn it off 🙂

No harm in providing feedback but do know that’s why it can be turned on / off on user preference.

Not sure if this belongs in this topic or a new.

I find Cancelling Navigation too many confirms.

        1. Tap ... at bottom right.
        2. Stop Navigation at top of list.
        3. Confirm Stop Navigation. and if you are not quick enough it disappears.
        4. Resume navigation? NO

By this time if I haven't had an accident it's a miracle!

Google Map tap X bottom left. Couldn't be simpler!

Put an X above speed icon.

        I am using Android 13.

@Daryl-Saunders-Qld-Australia it could be way less options, that’s correct.

However, let me tell you why.
You don’t have to stop the navigation while driving is at the center of that all.
If you are still driving, why even bother stopping it.

Last week I was driving by car in The Hague city center. Lots of one way streets, blocked roads, road works and traffic 🚧

While using Google Maps, I was near my destination but on the wrong side of the street. Trams drive in between the road sides so you can’t just cross. The app however thought I was there so it stopped the navigation.
I had to drive another kilometer to get to the other side through one way streets. No clue how to go. 😕

Restarting the navigation was a bitch. Tapping search, getting latest search, clicking it, loading, press start.

By this time if I haven’t had an accident it’s a miracle! 😉

Now I am approaching my destination, guess what: no parking. Google Maps however stopped again.
          Same procedure to restart.

At this point I wish that the Google Maps app would not stop navigation so aggressively.

End of story: our users drive long and complicated routes. On a bike with gloves. The last thing you need is having to force selecting your destination again. Either because you reached the destination falsely or you (or a drop of rain) accidentally touched the stop button 😉

Simply stop the navigation yourself when you are so sure you arrived. This is usually when you undo your seatbelt or put your sidestand down 😃

          That’s the rationale ❤

@Corjan-Meijerink, I completely agree with you on this illustrative story 😉 . No one else but me, myself and I decide when my route has finished. Only thing that I consider as not really necessary is the question to resume the route when you just manually stopped it and confirmed that. Usually I don't even bother about the whole procedure, and just close the app with a single swipe (Android).

@Con-Hennekens The pause function, because that is what the Stop navigation button does, is useful if you stop for a coffee and take your phone with you. It can be quite embarrassing to have Turn around when possible playing from your pocket as you order your double espresso so I always pause. When the coffee is drunk just hit the Navigate button and away you go.

@Nick-Carthew, Indeed. However the Android version does not continue when you lock your screen. So there will be no voice telling to turn around when I order coffee 😉 I know some people would want it to continue, to be able to leave the phone in their pocket, but I kind a like it the way it is...

@Corjan-Meijerink said in When you reach your destination you have to cancel navigation manual:

If you are still driving, why even bother stopping it.

I really would like to have the option to continue navigating. Arriving at a destination in the middle of the city usually starts the nightmare of finding a parking spot. In that case it is handy that the nav tool sends you back to the destination so you can use it to avoid that you wander to far off.

It is not difficult, it is easy, it's a hobby

@Corjan-Meijerink And my story to add to yours: Two weeks ago my wife and I were touring Sicily, trying to find our AirBnB in Palermo, where the roads are crazy and the drivers even crazier. Like you, we drove past our Air BnB but there was no place to stop. Luckily, the navigation kept doing and did not end autmatically. Simply trying to "drive around the block" resulted in a 15 minute tour of Palermo, with lots of one way streets, no left turns, traffic circles with crazy drivers, and other challenges. If the navigation program had stopped, we would have been in deep deep doo-doo.

My view: end navigation when I tell it to, not automatically.

                              Thanks,

P.S. The Air BnB was terrific! If anybody is looking for a place to stay in Palermo, I have a recommendation!

I did Sicily unfortunetly in a car, as my partner at the time refused to get on a Bike.

@Lynchy67 I had a weird problem with Google Maps in Taormina which I was using to navigate in the rental car. I got "You have reached your destination" in the middle a tunnel on the of E45, the main highway between Messina and Catania.

Turns out, the coordinates of our Air B&B were exactly the same as that point -- just on the side of the mountain about 1000 feet above the road. Not really what we wanted to deal with at the end of a tiring drive from Palermo!

I know that it's possible to calculate altitude with GPS, but it seems like nobody's software does that yet.

Planning to go back to Sicily in the summer.
Hire a motorbike in Palermo and do the coastline all the way round.
I'll see if MyRoute-App handles it better.

                                      @Lynchy67 Sounds great.

By the way, the coastal superhighway between Palermo and Messina wasn't that great, IMO, and with apologies for any Sicily fans who might be here! There were some nice views, but an amazing portion of the road is in tunnels, so you miss a lot of great views. If I were to do it over again, I would skip that part and go back through the more mountainous central part of the country.
