Battery drain when navigating
-
Today no navigation, but onbly tracking a route by bycicle. Let the screenshots speak for itself.
Started tracking at 96% battery capacity. Distance 15km; time 40minutes.
Halfway, 1% background activity
After 30km's end of tracking. 90 minutes pause in between two trackings and only 3% use of background activity.
Batterycondition is 100%.
Looks good so far. Resumé: tracked with the app for 90 minutes and stood on standby for 90 minutes.
iPhone 13
iOS 16.3.1
App-buid: 3.2.8 - 151@Rob-Verhoeff That's very decent! Thanks for sharing the information

Première sortie à moto avec la version beta :
Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G - Android 13 Batterie 4.500 mAh

@Willy-DEOM Thanks for sharing the feedback and further information. We will continue investigating the issue.

@Corjan-Meijerink Just been on a run today with my iPhone 8 Plus (iOS 16.3.1) and there was no drain on battery whilst tracking, navigating and screen recording. Indeed, the charge increased to 100% as the ride went on. I was using a cable from auxiliary socket to the Lightning Port to charge and i will check wireless charge performance on the bike next time I am out on it. No issues with drain from my perspective.

@Dave-J-0 Thanks for confirming another side of this issue! I just drove for 45 minutes with full screen brightness, tracking on and using the nee navigation.
Battery usage was 15% which is pretty decent. When using Google Maps this morning during a 35 minute ride, the battery usage was 11% which is very similar.
My device is an iPhone 12 Pro Max.

@Corjan-Meijerink
Indeed that sounds acceptable! I don't mind the battery use when not charging. But when charging there should still be a positive charge, else the risk of running out of battery during a ride is too high. That should not be the case, right? -

@Corjan-Meijerink here my battery usage today. Used MRA between 7:30 and 9 and 4:30 and 6. My battery doesn’t like cold weather and this morning was ccccolddd (1 degree Celsius and fog). I think this is ok. My phone (iPhone 7) is always on the charger when driving. I do have background location set to “when using app” because I noticed several crashes when not even using MRA and quite some battery usage.

@Evert-Kuiken This is fine indeed!

@Rolf-Aalders Not really! See the changelog for the new update: https://forum.myrouteapp.com/topic/3392/new-beta-v3-2-9
This is the last known real critical issue

@Rolf-Aalders Today riding with the MyRoute-app,battery was 88% and my iPhone 13 mini in the usb socket for voltage…….2 hours later the battery was 35% procent and still dropping…. So with the Navigation on the battery is draining verg fast even in usb socket . Than i turned Navigation off and close the app and battery was in 1,5 hour back at 80 % …..my conclusion that i can,t use the app because of battery drainage…..

I have indeed the same. I cannot use navigation because of the battery drain...To be honest... Battery drain.. + the Android app just crashes very, very (very!) often, of which I cannot recover safely due to gloves on, while riding motorcycle...
This makes the app actually useless... ;( ;(
I'm only using it for trips I already know, to test if these 2 issues are solved yet, so that I can actually start using it.@Corjan-Meijerink any updates on the battery drain and the crashes (android)? Is there perhaps anything that I can help? Perhaps sharing logsfiles, if that is possible?

@Rolf-Aalders both will be more intensively investigated after the CarPlay update

We are all reporting same issue to guys they know it. We have to stop using app to save battery even if charged. What is interesting (at least what I’ve noticed) that almost all reported issues are on iphone 13….mine is iphone 13 pro, ios 16.3.1
Just an observation

No, also noticed with iPhone X.
The little 12-5Volt converter plug does not supply enough power to compensate for the consumption, the iPhone was empty after 1 hour (start at 45% battery charge).
But because this is known, I'm sure it will be solved soon. -
I will add my findings to this debate. Yesterday I used the app to navigate and track a route of about 120 miles. I stopped several times and paused the tracking. The original route was 66 miles and when I reached the destination I chose to edit the route and I added several route points to take me back home. The first of these new route points was RP7 so when I opened the newly edited route I gave a long press on RP7 to set as the start point. Everything worked perfectly as it should have.
My phone is an iPhone 11 and it's mounted on a Quadlock handlebar mount. I had it plugged into a 12v supply via a usb cable. My phone had about 80% battery when I started and when I got home the battery was at 100%. I also noticed that there was no significant heat despite the phone being within the Quadlock case. I had no other apps open while navigating.
