Edit: I was WRONG (thankfully). I was WRONG (thankfully). Read @Timo-Martosatiman-MRA's post below and you'll see how you can show multiple routes simultaneously in MRA (if you didn't already know, as I didn't). I learn something new every day! The method I outline below using Garmin MyMaps is a quick and easy way to share a group of routes with family or friends where they can turn the layers on and off to see your routes but it's great that this can be done within MRA! THANKS!
    ..........................
Yes, yes, I know.... you can't do this directly in MRA, and it's probably the only thing I miss about Basecamp. It's very useful to be able to view multiple routes at the same time and be able to turn them on and off to see how they overlap. I did a search and didn't see mention of this anywhere so I thought I'd post it.

There's a relatively easy work around. It takes just a little extra work, but considering the power and ease of use of MRA it's WELL worth it. Everything is a tradeoff, and this is a very minor inconvenience.

The solution is to use Google MyMaps (mymaps.google.com), export your .gpx file from MRA and import it into a MyMaps layer. You can create up to 10 layers per MyMaps map, and you can create an unlimited number of maps for free. Here's a quick example of three routes that I created for the Boone NC. US area. This should give you an idea of how MyMaps works. If you need any additional info just let me know.

Actually, you can. This is unless I'm misunderstanding you. Click on the hamburger menu.

      Select Routes

From there on it's pretty easy to add multiple routes as layers.

Is this what you were searching for?

      Kind regards,

      Timo

@Timo-Martosatiman-MRA Good grief! That's perfect! I must have looked at the "Routes" option a thousand times and never even thought to try it! I'll put my dunce cap on and sit that corner for an hour or two!

I'll edit my original post so no one follows my useless advice! 😊

        Thanks!!!

@Timo-Martosatiman-MRA that's basically the process outlined in the manual I linked to.

It would be great if this functionality could be extended in the future, as I've suggested (in Dutch) here (basically: make it possible to persist such a composite, and preferably, also make it possible to easily jump to the composing routes).

@Steve-Jarrell No need for a dunce cap 😉 , perhaps just ponder on how you're glad that you don't have to jump to mymaps anymore.

@Herko-ter-Horst Ah thanks, I just read "it's not what I'm looking for" and figured it'd be faster for me to scratch together a few ugly screen grabs.

Keeping them 'permanent' is something I'm aware of and will be added sometime in the future.

Excellent ideas! Also the ability to toggle the route overlays on and off instead of removing them would be very helpful.

I LOVE screenshots. I use Snagit (by TechSmith) many, many times a day to create and edit screenshots for many purposes. It's one of my "absolutely must have" apps on my computer!

Another cool feature would be to automatically include the current route that you're editing in the list of routes but not let it be removable and allow you to change its color like you can the other layers.

                    @Steve-Jarrell

It seems that the complete picture of what is being suggested here is the ability to have "layers" in a single routefile whereby each layer presents another route, and the start/endpoints of those routes are shared so that dragging a shared point changes two or more routes that share that particular waypoint.

I compare this to the layers in CAD software, or in image software such as adobe photoshop, or infinity.

each layer could have its own colors, toolbox setting (avoid highways...) etc....

and each layer could have its own name like the tab pages in excel.

Giving focus to the base layer would give route statistics covering all layers, focusing on another layer would give the stats for that particular layer.

an option to import an existing route in a layer, and to explode the layers of one routefile in individual routes could be nice?

It is not difficult, it is easy, it's a hobby

Much of that functionality is in the existing system in the "Routes" option on the left side of the screen as @Timo-Martosatiman-MRA pointed out in his post above. While the functionality can be improved on, it is really good it will be very helpful to me now that I know it exists!
