This big number of links of quite a big number of recent support requests on this forum, to illustrate that the MRA developers didn't perform too well in choosing the default behaviour... Instead of defaulting to

"Hide unasked and useless pictures someone else made", but make them showable,
the MRA developers chose a default of
"Show unasked and useless pictures someone else made", but make them hideable ...

thereby NOT making the reflection that IF this newest feature would prove to be useful, for sure it would become known by most users interested in using this feature... Oh no, not with these developers : why be user-friendly and deliver a predictable application, if you can confuse in no time all users with yet another useless feature

@sudolea The setting that you choose ON or OFF is remembered, I don’t see what your problem is.

@nick-carthew Would be nice if the setting starts on off instead of on. So far I have not come across anyone who liked the feature. Would safe a lot of similar postings on how to turn it off.

Of course it is remembered. That is not my problem. My problem is that this new feature is ON by default. Why push such new "features" through the user's throat, unasked for ? Why not make the choice to deliver a predictable application rather than having countless users out of balance (as an illustration : without any effort, I could link you 4 other forum requests of the last 14 days asking how to disable the feature) ?

Why wasn't the reflection made "does the average user really want this feature we ourselves are so full of" ? If you introduce a new feature, why not do it in a gentle way ? It's never wrong to ask yourselves the question "how do we introduce this new feature to the 4% of users probably wanting it without annoying 96% of the users who won't have any benefit from it". Hence my suggestion, in this case, to

                      1. adopt other defaults (defaulting to "hide" instead of "show"), and
                      2. communicate the feature to the 100% of the users; the 4% will catch this feature and be enthousiastic about it.

Whereas now, you missed a chance to deliver a predictable application and smoothly introduce a new feature.

So shoving this new feature through the user's throat is the answer ??? You/MRA developers don't seem to get my problem. And that ... is the problem (for you/MRA).

@hans-van-de-ven-mra-master Indeed, I know it now. As far as I'm concerned, this case can be closed indeed. To say more, you may just as well consider it as "never opened". On the other hand, I don't know if it can be closed for you MRA guys...

Because just like I recently did, quite a lot of users will soon be coming back to MRA to plan for their next holidays. And will be confronted with these pictures (on their old existing routes). And will ask themselves "what the heck is this now ?". And will open yet another similar topic asking for the solution.

But yes, case closed for me too, indeed. I'm just wondering aloud how many times this subject will pop up in the next months. Currently at 7 such requests in a 2 week's time span, and counting...🤒

In the past, new features tended to be announced on this forum (often by @Timo-Martosatiman-MRA). There’s even a special section for it - it’s called ‘Announcements’!

This one has been foisted on customers unannounced. I don’t recall a single request or suggestion for such a feature and I haven’t seen any positive reaction to it at all. I know people are often more inclined to complain than to praise, but that has tended not to be the case on this forum in my experience, with plenty of enthusiastic feedback to features announced, in the relevant place, and introduced thoughtfully.

It seems that MRA has undergone some changes and, in the process has acquired the kind of arrogance displayed by huge corporate players such as Apple, Google and Nike and is no longer responsive to customers, or even listening to them. Those huge organisations have got away with it having created such a strong brand that many see them as indispensable - often for quite misguided reasons such as snobbery, perceived image and ‘lifestyle statements’, exaggerated marketing claims (now there’s MRA all over) and broad abandonment of critical faculties among consumers. Yet MRA is a tiny fish in a huge ocean, and while such arrogance is never good, for small, developing companies to display it is suicidal. Particularly for one that continues to claim that it does listen. MRA is not even a brand yet. It certainly is not indispensable - even for the poorest of reasons and, as that small fish, it is very vulnerable to ‘predators’ and to being ousted from its tiny niche.

My question is, who are the management and owners of MRA listening to now? Not it’s forum acolytes, who continue to seek to justify such moves as this invasive and childish ‘development’, that seems clear. Is there some new, influential person or team calling the shots, perhaps? That’s conjecture of course, but to me this development smacks of sudden undue and misguided influence bouncing around like Tigger.

MRA not seeing the problem with this introduction is symptomatic of a wider issue - that they no longer see any customer issues, needs, suggestions and requests as their problem. And that really is a problem… For their business, not me. I vote with my feet…

Therefore are the FB life webinars and online training.

The are also users who don’t have streetview, such as in Germany.
I agree with you that not all pictures are representing the environment that you want to see without streetview.

@herko-ter-horst Thank you for the links explaining how to turn off the unwanted feature of someone elses pictures. As has been suggested, the mistake was that this feature was introduced with a default "on" setting when the reality is most users will probably want it turned off.

This big number of links of quite a big number of recent support requests on this forum, to illustrate that the MRA developers didn't perform too well in choosing the default behaviour...

If anything, this big number of supports request shows that a lot of people are not thinking nor searching for themselves... I think switching it on/off is located at a very intuitive place in the menu.

It would be enormously illogical to create a new feature and have it off by default so people won't know. I sometimes ask myself if those people also take such effort talking about new senseless features they don't like in for example Windows 11... For me personally the pictures themselves are not very interesting, but they do help pick pause locations. It is great to be able to enable/disable this feature.

On the other hand I also agree with @PAD-0 that communication from MRA to the customers has been lacking and is not what early adopters are used to. I would just not spill that many words on it.

I am not affiliated with MyRoute-App. The help I am offering is entirely voluntary.
I am just an enthusiastic user, and hope you will be one too!

Some people still think that it has value to voice on this forum their questions, idea's, suggestions, opinions, concerns... while all evidence suggests that this is not the case. It appears today as if this forum has been nothing more than a temporary publicity effort, similar to the roadmap for instance.

Have you noticed on the facebook channel that there are tests starting of the android versus ios navigation tool and the new mobile app? Facebook is now the new MRA "place to be" until that also is dropped in favour of...

We just have to let MRA do what it does, use its products if we like them, and above all avoid being locked in and become dependent on it.

Ya, I have... I would rather have seen it being announced on this forum first... apparently MRA's priority lies at Facebook communication. Obvious once more. Notice how it also states that "Timo is away to test...". We all wish Timo would be (more) present on this forum 😑 It all seems that MRA does not have a community manager anymore, and the RouteXperts now sort of need to fill that gap. We all have seen Hans and Nick reporting stuff to the developers. Imho that's the job of the so-called forum moderators.
