Navigation question.
-
I have set up a test route to use in the navigation part of MRA, I know the route, and the waypoints / shaping points are marked spot on, for when I am reading the map / screen on my BMW TFT display. I have added comments to every point, I.E (turn left at traffic lights - petrol station - coffee stop) you get the picture. So now out running the test and to my surprise, I am getting the notification anything up to a mile before the marker, why is this happening as the markers are still in place.
Anyone able to give me an answer on this please, as my phone is in my pocket and not on view.
Thank you.

@Ian-Street by design waypoint notes are announced way before you reach the waypoint (2km for via, 750m for shaping) so you get the message before arriving rather than just after passing.

Personally, I think 2km is too early for via points, 1.5km would be better. Even If the note has the maximum of the 512 characters (including spaces) the entire note would still be able to be read aloud before reaching the via point position.

@Corjan-Meijerink Thank you for your update, I will now know what to change in my route planning.

Two kilomter or by usual speedlimits on country roads 80-100 more than one minute up to 1,5 Minutes to get the announcement and I aggree this is quite to early.
As proposed reduce the distance to 1,5.The trick to set SP just at 700 to 1200 m before to get a the verbal notices closer to the real position is disturbing.

@Corjan-Meijerink
What about the idea to make this configurable? Small setting item in the configuration area ?Tom

What really is the issue of being slightly early? That’s better than just too late anyway.
You now know what’s coming up

@Corjan-Meijerink
Corjan sorry as I repeat it now once more and it is for me the only and biggest concern I have compared to all Systems I used up to now (Navigon, Garmin, Apple and some Apps for test on which I don‘t continue by several disadvantages). If you get the advice about 1.5 Minute or 2 Kilometers before and no other advice afterwards like for the final destination with a notice at 1 km 300 m and on target, you have to look always on the countdown of the distance counter to find the right point perhaps to reduce speed and open the view for perhaps the parking entry.
And again, why do we have this 3 times advice at the end of a trip and for what reason not for another stop point for a break. In meaning there shall be no difference between the last stop and one (or more) on the tour if needed.Garmin do this, Apple maps do this Google stops navigation at each mileston, viapoint.
-
@Peter-Schiefer, usually there is visible confirmation of where the VIApoint actually is. You must look out for the entry of a parking entry on the road, not at the countdown of the distance counter
The difference with reaching the destination is that it is a navigational guidance, Like turn left at the traffic light. A waypoint announcement is no navigational guidance. I like having navigational guidance repeated at the moment your actually need to follow it, but I would hate having waypoint notes repeated twice or thrice...

@Con-Hennekens
Con I will not get in a conflict situation but seems you ignore my argument and give me a logical answer. Always say do this and this.
Why we have get 3 notices for the final stop beginning at 1000 m and not for an „for what ever reason“ in between stop on the tour marked with the same sign the hand, means perhaps stop here? No answer up to now.
Do I need to split a day trip in severel routes Day 01, Day 02 … to get such similar notices. Makes no value.
Again MRA wants to be the best Nav solution. My Garmin do this.
I am real happy with the Web based planer, use it as my standard planer for some years now with transfer to my Garmin since you offer Navigation next which I want to use as substitute for the Garmin, but can‘ t yet.I am not an IT expert, I was QM system expert, but as others also concerned the 2 kilometer distance is too far for vias and on the other hand 750 m distance for spoken advice for a shaping you see as Ok.
Not a logical clue for such a difference. May you come to a common value of 1 Kilometer, together with the counter, now also optional in CarPlay for Via, shaping or final target this will be a good compromise. -

I do not ignore arguments, I value them, and weigh them against my own arguments, against my thoughts about the current situation, against how things are likely thought about during development and against general consensus. I could as easily blame you for ignoring my arguments . I think I clarified above why things are different for waypoints notes, compared to navigational directions from the technical point of view. You don't need to feel attacked by what I answer. I am just expressing my views, like you are expressing yours. Obviously your and my views are often miles apart.Back on topic: Yes, me too have no clue why the difference between the distance of announcements for SP and VP. I have some trust though in that the devs have been thinking about that before implementation. I can only guess that notes for VIA points are rated more important over the usually just informative notes on shaping points. Personally I don't think it's worth a lot of discussion. I would not want to have anything changed before knowing the reason behind it.

@Con-Hennekens
I am here as volunteer like others. I have wishes for improvements which can be discussed for necessity and I have questions again not answered, like why we have the difference of 1000 m first anouncement and 2 repeats for final target and 2 kilometer only once for a perhaps importe via and 750m for shaping poinst with a note and by this i made my tests here which could create for ohter users unexpected problems.
I present here now again my test route to the Gym and home.
Again the problem is that on the tour to the gym I get all announcement as expected and on the tour back after the turn roght to the L170 not the SP5 Via 6 and SP7Just after my last note I made a new try, first to the gym and than back on this tour it is a copy of the standard tour but here I delete the SP5 I got the announcment of the now new Via 5 at 2 km so about 300 m before to turm rigth, then the Sp 6 is ignored again.
On the other hand on the tour to the gym the distances for pre notification with SP coming at 750m before, the Sp himself is only 200 m frem the next Via and the Via will be noticed correct JUST after passing the pe SP.
This make no sense and sorry MRA not reliable.
picture with the route to the gym
blue Sp no text in notice. Yellow Sp as pre-advice for Via with notice. Green Hand Via Red hand final.
Same rout back but after the right turn no advice for Sp5 via 6 Sp7And now
This now the route with sp 5 deleted
In my point of view here MRA nexthas to much limitation and Con I am aware of some like distance to other advices but here you be in a fog not nows what happen.
Again on the rour to the gym all comments are there
Here close to the destination the Gym at hand 9 there is Sp8 pre-announcement for my target, the command to turn right the command to leave the round about at 2. outlet (hidden under Via9) and the command to reach the gym per voice
So for such discrepancies I have no clue, logic and this is a quality item regard reliabilty. -
Thank you for everyone who has made a comment on this post, I will take on board what has been said and will adjust the points as required.
Everyone, please keep up the great work that is being done, as without the feedback, good and bad, nothing would ever move forward.
