I cheer for every MRA update, although i sometimes hate how they do that ๐Ÿ˜œ

And just like all other users i have a ling list of unavailable features that i would like to see introduced ... but overall i am happy with the support that the routeplanner does give me.

And then, somecomments on this forum seem to suggest that any small shortcoming in the software, or the route, or the track is a life tgreathening situation capable of completely ruining a trip???
Hence, my question: shoul we be more capable of accepting some errors, and more capable of driving around considering mra as a welcome aid rather than as a nessential tool which potential failure ruins the trip?

It is not difficult, it is easy, it's a hobby

      Hi @Drabslab,

MRA hasn't ruined a route I made with the MRA planner yet, so plan the route carefully (isn't that necessary with every planning program?). Of course there are still wishes, and these are also listened to.
As soon as MRA Mobile is ready, the emphasis will be on MRA Navigation and in case of "real" bugs in the planner, MRA will of course give priority to that.

I too am very happy with the Route Planner functionality as it stands now knowing that further improvements will come in the future.
When I switched from the Tom Tom Rider 550 to the Garmin XT (Itโ€™s easier on my ageing eyes)it was Hans that walked me tirelessly through the transition.
The XT has never failed me once since that time.
On the odd occasion I have missed a road closure at the planning stage or a chance incident occurs I am able to navigate to my next Shaping Point (I never add Via Points).
This is why I always have my Shaping Points visible on the XT Map.

I also really like MyRoute-App Mobile for its seamless transfers to my Garmin XT.

Sat Navs and route planning software are AIDS TO NAVIGATION. Some people seem to turn off the "Common Sense Feature" in their brains and rely completely on the tool. That is the danger - not some minor error in the nav!

I couldnโ€™t agree more with your statement ๐Ÿ‘

Also, there are many users of route planning software and navigation devices that are too quick to blame the equipment because they donโ€™t fully understand how it works.

The only thing thats messed up a route here is the operator!

Lack of knowledge on using the programs and navigation device is usually a recipe for disaster!

I have had my ups and downs but I have learnt how to use MRA and how my garmin zumo reacts to that route too

As they say practice makes perfect! I now go out my way to purposefully break a route to see how things react etc its the only way of how to learn how things work

Not once have I blamed MRA it does what I tell it too

The Zumo on the other hand I am losing my patience with that thing has a mind of its own

                  @stuart-marritt

In my experience with the Zumo XT most unwanted recalculations on the XT are caused by not having enough Shaping Points in your Route.

In my experience its by not going the way that the zumo is telling you ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Usually as you may know a better route or you have veered off for a stop like fuel or something

The Zumo itself has a mind of its own when it comes to recalculations and for that reason I leave recalculations to prompted

For me the Zumo XT will never recalculate for me as I place at least 1 Shaping Point on every road I want to travel on.
Yes its a lot of extra work but I like to travel on the Country Lanes with the grass in the middle.

But thats the thing you wont get unwanted recalculations as you have enough shaping points etc

Schoolboy errors are what we are all learning from and what others will still be doing and not putting enough shaping points in

And if you don't put enough in and take a turn off route and it recalculates then you could end up with a totally different route. I have also had it ignore shaping points and go straight to the end of the route or start from the beginning

I use plenty of shaping points and also a few Via/waypoints as Via/Waypoints can't be ignored where as the zumo can ignore shaping points

My solution is to have plenty of both and turn off route recalculation on to prompt That way you can go off route if need be and be able to join back up on your own accord without messing the route
