Nearby routes option - suggestion
-
Just had a look at the new option nearby routes which I thought would be very handy in conjunction with a track I made. However I am pretty dissapointed by it because it does not show the nearby routes on the map. Instead it opens the library with routes. This way you still cannot see how it is situated and can be linked with an already existing track. So instead of showing the library with the routes - is it possible to make this nearby routes option in such a way that the routes/ track-lines can be seen on the map. That way you can instantly see which route you want to use/ add to your existing route.
Please, app developers change this so that it really has a function. because now you still need to upload the nearby route into your map to view it together with you original route. -
Hi Inge,
The routes nearby are indeed searched in the RouteXpert library and not in your own library. One of the reasons is that the routes must be public, the routes in the RouteXpert library are public. Routes in your own area may not have this. -
@hans-van-de-ven-mra-master that's not what Inge meant.
I agree with Inge that for this functionality to be of any use, the actual route expert routes that apparently are nearby, shall be shown as tracks in the route you are currently creating. Think of it in the same way as showing your own "Routes" as tracks in your route through the sidemenu "Routes".
If one needs to open the routeexpert route in a separate window, which closes your own route, the actual overview is lost. One can by doing so, not conclude wether or not certain parts of the routeexpert route fit your own route.

@stefanhummelink
Aha, so possibly with a "mouse-over" the icon of the route nearby, show the track, without having to open the route.

@Inge-Bakermans and @StefanHummelink
Like this?
-
@hans-van-de-ven-mra-master Exactly, or even more useful: actually show the Expert route being drawn as a track in the users route at the same moment.
This is what exactly happens when we show a own route in the current open route as shown below for example:
I believe this way of showing the Expert route is most efficient for perhaps stealing parts of it.

@stefanhummelink
I don't think in the short term, because there are now other projects underway from the roadmap. But it's something to remember. The routes nearby, the tracks are visible as indicated in the picture

@hans-van-de-ven-mra-master Hans, the way I meant it is: "Exactly, or even more useful: actually show the Expert route being drawn as a track in the users route at the same moment." When shown side by side to your own route it is useful else not (in my opinion).
Stefan thanks for clarifying what it was I meant.

Just to add my support to the requirement to enable the "Routes Nearby" function to also check routes from the user's personal account. I have a library of over 100 Alps passes that I'd like to be able to interrogate using the "Routes Nearby" function when creating rides for my tour groups.

Are there any plans to include routes from a users own folder in the "Routes Nearby" function in the near future?
-
@David-Mc no, sorry There are quite some technical limitations to why this isn't possible just as easy.
-
@Corjan-Meijerink Thanks for the feedback. I'll continue to hope it does get added at some point in the future.

All these potential routes and groups and no way to view what could be great routes.
39,291 UK users and only 155 routes.
Seems like a great opportunity wasted specially after paying for a gold subscription.

The RouteXpert library is already the largest verified route library and it is being added to all of the time including more routes in the UK.
There are only so many great roads to ride and I think that most of these are already covered by the 155 UK RX routes.RouteXpert routes are meticulously planned and checked to ensure that they are expertly constructed and will work equally for most navigation devices.
They all follow a similar formula making them easier for users to become accustomed to.We had an open library before we had the RouteXpert library and it contained far too many’Test’ routes where users uploaded any old route. This made it almost impossible to find a good one amongst them.

Sorry I must be missing them, can you point me to the classic routes in the Peak District where thousands of riders visit every year to ride?
Would it not be better to be able to view verified recommended routes and pubic shared routes and you can take your pick?
Outdoor Active and many other apps have this function.

@HighPeakRider
If you use the filters and choose East Midlands you will see that there are several Peak District routes.If you have any routes in particular that you would like to see in the library, share them to me and I’ll sprinkle some magic RouteXpert dust on them and add them to the library and accredit your name to them.
Like I said, the library is growing all the time.
-
@Nick-Carthew Will do, mine all start in Whaley Bridge so I'll look to provide some which are more Peak District centric.

A halfway house like this would be nice:
- allow route submissions from paid users (thus excluding spammers)
- RouteExperts to review/amend and make a decision to add/request a mod
It would take a lot of work but the result would be impressive, and a feather in MRA's cap.
Submissions would have to meet some defined minimum criteria - min no of waypoints, stops, POIs, etc.
Some maintenance in the form of post-publish reviews would be needed, of the lower scoring routes to keep the quality up.
I am very happy to submit routes for my area (South MIdlands/Cotswolds) but I suspect my routing skills are not up to scratch.

We have already thought of this and it is on the RouteXpert wish list, the NRXR; None RouteXpert Routes

One of the reasons I would like to see expansion beyond being able to search just the route expert routes is that I have set up my own libraries of passes in the Alps, Dolomites and Pyrenees. I'd like to choose a point and ask what routes are near by so that I can see what passes are close by and plan a route that includes a number of those passes. Without this option I have to know in advance what passes there are near to a given point then go looking for those passes through a very long list.
