app wont start

Why won't app open if there is no phone signal or WiFi gets stuck on check screen. Presumably maps and routes saved on device so should be usable using GPS without the need to download anything.

The app should definitely open without phone signal / internet / GPS. I’d recommend sharing a bit more information or even some screenshots.

@Corjan-Meijerink, yes if offline is disabled and the app starts without connection, it jumps to "temprorarily offline" mode just fine.
@Brian-Martin, if you have just updated the app, it could help to force quit it once from within the Android Apps settings (or simply reboot it).

@Con-Hennekens Have just tested again with WiFi off as well as phone signal, and yes it now starts in offline mode. Why it wouldn't before I don't know. I was trying to load a GPX file at the time from Google drive, maybe that was the cause of the problem.
