Whats wrong with my Route

I am working on a trip for June, Yet when I try to get to map marker 54 it takes me on a strange route (Highlighted yellow)
I am trying to get the route to stay on Skyline drive a MAJOR historic/epic East Coast road. But it will not let me. I may be ok with the horseshoe perhaps for some roadwork in that area but I do not Understand the extension through Stanley and Alma back to the first leg route of the trip which ends at yellow marker #46.
Any advice or help is appreciated.
