How do I get the system to map for sea crossings such as Santander to Portsmouth ?

@John-B-1 That's perfectly fine. In fact, there's an even neater way than the one above! In the Toolkit menu, choose Route Optimization > Shortest.

The use of toolkit-options alters the whole route with unforeseen changes.
Especially when the route is used on other devices than MRA.
Reinhard's solution ist without side-effect.
