Problems after offline/online and recalculation
-
I have planned a multi-day tour with MRA, which I have done several times before. For the first time, however, I rode the whole tour with the MRA app, i.e. without having a normal motorcycle navigation system with me.
The first day with approx. 320 km of the smallest side roads in Franconia went smoothly, and I particularly liked the voice announcements with the stored texts for individual POIs.The trip with a small group to the Czech Republic also went well, although I got lost a few times and had to recalculate the app.
I was able to save a tracking for both days.
The return trip, on the other hand, went rather badly.
At some point, I was offline because my SIM card was empty, but I did not realize that the app was still navigating. After a break, I took the wrong exit and wanted to recalculate, which was not possible because I was offline. From this point on, things started to go wrong.
First, I got back online with my main phone using hotspot. I interrupted the navigation and started it again. The app no longer showed any speed or speed limits.
The turn-by-turn directions at the top were no longer updated and there were no more voice prompts.I did not dare cancel the app and restart it because I was afraid of losing the current tracking. After that, I only rode by map view with a large zoom, which fortunately worked reasonably well.
When the group split up, I ended the navigation and saved the recorded track, or so I thought.
Unfortunately, when I got home, the track had disappeared.I cannot reconstruct the whole thing and have no explanation, but I have become a bit wary of relying solely on the app for longer trips. I will probably pack the good old Zumo again for the upcoming Malle rally.

Hey Thomas,

Hey Thomas,
I recommend to always set the setting to offline. I have only been driving with the MRA for a long time, always coupled via hotspot.
The advantage of the setting is the radio holes or a sudden empty sim .. no longer disturb ...

Hallo Hubert, in diesem Fall verliert man aber die Verkehrsmeldungen auf der Strecke oder? Thomas

@Hubert-Thoring You have "Navigation routes as tracks" active, but that function works better online not offline !

Where you navigating with the native app on your phone, or with an Android Auto or Carplay system? A freezing screen is not uncommon in AA/CP, but in a natively running app I have never heard that.

When you force close the app and restart it, it will ask you if you want to continue the tracking or not.

Yes, with offline navigation you don't get any traffic info. For scenic routes that is seldomly needed anyway.

Correct. When using routes-as-tracks it is better to do this online. If you want to be offline, better disable that feauture.

Sorry for the delay, I was travelling for 5 days, this time with the convertible and also MyRouteApp.
I had the problems described above on a motorbike trip with a Pocophone F1 running Android 9 natively, i.e. without the use of Android Auto.
Unfortunately, my story of frustrations is not over yet.
We were travelling in the convertible for 5 days as mentioned and this time we have MRA on a Pixel 7 with Android Auto. (Android 15)At first everything went smoothly. Paired the mobile phone with AA, started MRA and selected and started the route. No problems until the first break. After the break I started the car, AA established the connection, only MRA did not want to run on the AA monitor. The route was displayed on the mobile, the current location was displayed on the AA monitor, but the cursor did not move. As we drove on, nothing moved on the AA monitor, only the navigation was displayed on the mobile phone.
Stopped, shut everything down and restarted. Now it worked again until the next break.
After this happened to me several times, I downloaded the route from MRA as gpx, imported it into kurviger and continued with kurviger.
In kurviger there is an option to switch to the mobile phone on the AA monitor. And on the mobile there is a button to switch to AA.
I don't know anything like that with MRA, but it would probably have helped me in this situation. The rest of the week we drove the daily stages planned in MRA on Kurviger and there were no more problems.
