    Good afternoon! 👋

    After the massive app update that included the new in-app Routeplanner, we dedicated some time to the website MRA Routeplanner 🎉

    In the latest website update we improved the POI functionality.
    This update now improves the route overview possibility.

    A big frustration for a lot of users was that while adding additional routes to a route, you had to do this over every single time, the colours would be the same and you had to start searching all over again every time. These issues have all been solved 💪

    a3da5e6c-735d-471d-bbb7-5d126737209b-image.png

    In the image above, you can see I am creating a route and 2 others are shown (nothing new). If I however reload the page / use another device, these same added routes are still displayed with the selected color 💥

    If I add a tracklog, this will get a random color assigned and also shown on the map.

    b6e8c2be-744f-48ab-8be9-be69726347b3-image.png

    You can still add more routes / tracks and change the colours as you are used too!
    Simply use the applicable menu.

    If you choose to add another route, the same folder as where you were before will open 😏

    This minor yet awesome improvement will make your planning life just a bit more convenient.

    Note: the app won't show additional routes

    Best,
    Corjan ❤

    @Corjan-Meijerink I am super impressed .....
    I only requested this exact feature a few days ago 😂 😂

    @Brian-McG said on 29 July 2024 in Route-overlay switching:

    Hi @Thomas-Schäfer I also use the overlay routes & my process is very similar to yours
    a big frustration I have with this process is that the overlay routes I have carefully added are lost when I click away, it is a long proces to keep adding & re-adding the same routes
    it would be nice if there was a selection like in the new POI menu where you could select the overlay to be remembered & this selection was stored with the route

    If all features are implemented at this speed MRA is going to be truly awesome 😂 😂

      Very good, but i’m still exporting mine into basecamp to get an overall view, I mainly ride in the peak district and it makes it easy to pick an old route to ride or plan somewhere that’s not been ridden.

      I guess the next challenge is to be able to select a folder and have a ‘View All’ option.

      @HighPeakRider That’s exactly my use case and the suggestion I made above 😀

      Show all the roads in a particular area that are covered by existing routes, and then either choose a route that covers a road I fancy riding, or create a new route that goes on a road that none of my existing routes use.

        This is fantastic and a feature that I really missed from using Basecamp.

        What would take it to 11 out of 10 would be a toggle to automatically show the other routes stored in the same folder as the one that the route that you are editing is stored. This was the fantastic thing about Basecamp. As my routes are stored in folders corresponding to areas, I could highlight a folder that covers the rough area I’m interested in and see all routes in that folder/area.

        It can be done using your new functionality, but would currently require manually adding all the routes in the folder to all the other routes in the folder, so would grow exponentially as the number of routes increases.

        Totally agree. That would make the pleasant update even better 👍

          @Corjan-Meijerink this is awesome, great update!

          One of my primary uses of this feature will be to communicate about multi-day trips with other participants. In that light, it would be great if the added routes would also persist when adding the route to a group or event. Or even better (as others have mentioned), if that could be automated so there's an automatic overview of the routes in the group or event.

          But it's already great to be able to do it once for my own routes and then have it persist.

            Your wish, is my command 😃
            Showing all* data in a folder** with one click coming up! 🎉

            *Limit of 20 items per time due to keep things working kinda smoothly

                    @CD130 thanks! 🙂

                    Won’t happen. Not so much about the challenge but just severely complicates stuff regarding performance / experience.

                    If you want a subfolder added, it’s just 2 clicks (open folder & add all) - not worth it to automate 🙂

                      @Corjan-Meijerink amazing work 👏

                      for you next miracle trick could you add a visibilty check box for each of the additional added routes, something similar to how we can select which sets of Point of Interest to show on the map

                      the reason I ask is sometimes the added routes will overlap the main route that is being planned, you can then loose where the main route goes as you are not sure which added route it is hidden under
                      I think the only way to refind the main route at the moment is to remove the added routes which takes us back to the scenario of having to re-add routes

                      I do have to say the new sticky visibilty of added routes is a brilliant "addition" to the web planner, it will save me hundreds if not thousands of clicks & tens & tens of minutes over a year. Many thanks 👏 🍻 👏

                          @Corjan-Meijerink What I would find very cool is the ability to see the entire library in one overview. This way I can easily see if I have driven a certain road before. I thought this would be possible by adding subfolders, but so the problem is more in the limit of 20 routes? Hope this is still possible in the future. I think @HighPeakRider indicates the same wish.

                          But, as mentioned, this is already a fantastic update 👍👊

                                  However, I did notice when I for example add 2 additional routes to a route (and the have their own colors), and then exit this route and return again, it really shortly (short "blip") shows the 2 extra routes with their own colour, but then "dissapear" behind the main route.
                                  So the 2 added routes with colour "hide" behind the black main route.

                                  Only way to get them back is to delete the 2 added routes and select them again.

                                    Hi @Tim-Verhaaf can you please expand/explain in more detail how you get the main route to appear on top of the added routes?

                                    I cannot get this to happen, for me the main route is always hidden below the added routes 0e299ed8-b201-4ea3-bf77-9355621747f0-image.png

                                    For me this displaying the main route on top would be more helpful than having the added routes on top. A couple of posts above I have requested the additon of a visibility checkbox for the added routes, similar to that in the POI library section, as this would a lot more flexability & avoid having to delete/re-add routes

                                      @Brian-McG

                                      In my example my 2 additional routes are parts of the same main route, but I divided this main route in 3 parts (from start to coffee, from coffee to lunch, from lunch to end point)

                                      1. Open a main route
                                      2. Add a additional route (so 1 out of 3 from the main route)
                                      3. Add another additional route (so 2 out of 3 from the main route)
                                        Now you see the main route (in black) and 2 additional routes (in colour) overlaid on the black main route.
                                        So the only black part you see is the final third of the route (from lunch to end point)
                                      4. Close the main route (so exit the route planner), by going back to route-lab.
                                      5. re-open the same main route that you just closed
                                        There is a short "blip" of the 2 colour additional routes (1 of 3 and 2 of 3) but within a second they disappear under the main route, so the entire route is now black)

                                      As you can see on the top picture, the additional routes are still "active" but don't show op, they are "under" the main black route.

                                      The bottom picture is when I just added the additional routes before closing out of the route planner.

                                      For your wish to display the main route on top: you can perhaps play with the opacity of the colors, so the black main route is better visible....???

                                          Haha I just edited my previous message to you with the same idea 🙂

                                          But however, the colors should not "hide" under the main route when re-opening the route.
                                          You should not "have to" play with the transparency of colors.

                                          The transparency you suggest in your last message is applied to the black main route.
                                          You an also play with transparancy of the additional routes. (right next to the place where you choose to colour)
                                          By clicking on the small colored square and then adjust the transparency slider.
