Newbie needs help opening HERE map in app...
-
Hi, please be gentle!
Firstly, is there a manual for the app which I can read? This might stop me asking question like this...
I have various Routes saved in my profile. Most use the default OpenStreetMap and open in the app perfectly. However, I have one which uses the HERE map and will not open in the app, giving me the message 'Something went wrong'.
I have spent a lot of time working on this route and use HERE to avoid seasonal closures. How can I open it and start navigating it in the app?
Thank you,
Tom -
@Tom-Grzelinski You can find the manual on this website..

Thanks for the link Rob

The manual is great, but doesn't help with my problem opening the HERE route in the app. Can anyone help please?

@Tom-Grzelinski make the route (and folder if in a folder) public and share a link here. We can try to duplicate and resolve your problem.

@Doug-Robinson
Hi Doug, thanks, does this work for you:

@Tom-Grzelinski No offence, but you have created one route that is nearly 4600km long! That's at least a journey of 15 days if you drive 300km every day. First of all: why on earth would you make a route that long? Why not break it up into daily routes? There are so many overlapping segments in that route that I can imagine MRA would choke on it.

@Rob-Verhoeff
Hi Rob,I am doing this in 14 days this September! It makes (and made) sense to me to do it all as one route so that I had the totals, but also it is all one big trip and I can see the whole route together.
No offence either, but MRA copes perfectly well with this. The route we are talking about is my v5 route. v1-4 use OpenStreetMap and open perfectly and navigate perfectly in the App.
I only changed v5 to HERE map to avoid the seasonal closures, but maybe that was a bad idea. Maybe I should stick with the OpenStreetMap version.
-
@Tom-Grzelinski Okay, I do find it quite interesting! However, if you create the route in OSM and then open it for navigation, you will receive a warning that the route may deviate because the navigation module only uses the Here map. In that case, I don't find it strange that something went wrong as per the notification you receive! Somewhere along the route, the app simply cannot calculate a route. Always create the route you want to navigate in the Here map, or if you export to TomTom, use the TomTom map.
-
Is @Tom-Grzelinski even using the actual (paid) navigation module I wonder, or just "follow the line" navigation in the free part of the app?
-
@Rob-Verhoeff
Hi Rob, v5 (mk5) was created in HERE map and avoids the navigation changes... I just can't open it in the app! -
@Tom-Grzelinski Some of your waypoints are also located very far from the road! Always make sure they are right on top of the route line. Otherwise, you do indeed run the risk of the navigation not being able to calculate the route because a waypoint simply cannot be found.

@Herko-ter-Horst
Hi Herko, I have been using MRA for about 4 months, building this trip. I purchased the Lifetime package last week, hence I am trying to get the route to work on the App... before I leave on the trip in September!!! -

@Rob-Verhoeff
Thanks Rob. All the waypoints were made through MRA web, searching for locations. I thought they were all on road locations. I will take a close look again.P.S. as a new user I am limited to only being able to post every 120 seconds... which is frustrating! Sorry for the delays in replying
-
@Tom-Grzelinski That delay will pass. I strongly advise you to still break down the route into manageable segments and make sure all waypoints are placed precisely on top of the route line. I wouldn't have much confidence in your approach otherwise. Also, take a look at the support section for a guide on creating a multi-day trip. By the way, there are very helpful videos on this topic circulating on YouTube. Good luck!

@Rob-Verhoeff
Again, thanks Rob, I will look at multi-day trips. -

@Rob-Verhoeff
Again, thanks Rob, I will look at multi-day trips.There's a 'Split' option available to Gold users - it's in the Toolkit menu. A lifesaver after putting all that effort in!
All you have to do is select the waypoints where you want to split the route up. It won't overwrite your existing route, so you can experiment without risk.
-
@Tom-Grzelinski I tried splitting your route in half and then half again. In each case the route loads but failed when attempting to navigate. I took a look at the last section of your route, the Waypoints are generally fine but it appears you may be dealing with closed roads. See below red sections. I had the traffic layer turned on.
-
@Tom-Grzelinski I did a little more testing. I'm not able to open the entire map but I split the map into two half's and I'm able to open each half. I'm also able to start navigation as long as I quickly turn off the option to navigate from current location (can't navigate from Canada ). So the end result is that I don't know why the app can't open the entire route ... other than it is simply too large. I had a similar problem when planning a 2 week trip. Once I was finished planning on the Web site I split into separate routes for each day. Good luck.
