I would really appreciate being able to choose whether to save the route I am editing or to exit without saving; or, in alternatively, I would like that, from the moment I open a path to modify it, a backup copy was created so that the original path can be recovered in case of serious 'messes' committed during the modification.

      I understand that suggestion.
In that case I make a copy of a route before I edit it.

Yes, thank you. I also sometimes make this way.
        But it's not very comfortable...
        And sometimes I forget ...

You may point to a shortcoming of the routeplanner here. All changes are immediately stored in the "official" version on the MRA server.

It could perhaps be better that route editing is done on a temporary version (although still stored on the server) and that it requires an active intervention (save/save as button) of the user to put the changes also in the official version.

I do read in your posts that you were/are active in the IT world. And I think you sometimes use your experiences here on the forum to contribute to the help to fellow users.
As an IT person you know that you are not allowed to work on an item until you have secured a (verified) backup? πŸ˜‡

Yes, I try to help a bit, possibly to the desperation of MRA folks when I start complaining about their percieved "hobby club" approach πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

However, I try to keep it fairly low key avoiding the IT slang, or references to development models and stuff like that.

But you are a piece of the same cloth, ain't you Jack?

I've had similar thoughts, but I have finally developed the habit of 'copy, then edit'. After a bit it's become second nature.

There is of course another very big advantage in copying the route before you modify it.
If you are going to edit the copy, you can add the original route to the map via the <Routes> menu in the left column.
In this way you can keep the adjustments well in view and bring them back to original if necessary.

Very correct and this c(sh)ould be added to the temporary version way of working. You see the original version on screen + the modifications in "track changes lay-out" (another color for instance). And clicking the save button incorporates the changes in the original route.

Nonsense. In doing so, you cannot go back to the original version. That will go wrong with many users!
