Suggestions regarding traffic information and route changes

I think this request (or at least part of it) may have been raised before, but I can't seem to find it. So, just to be safe, I'm bringing it up again. At the same time, I'd like to get a discussion going: perhaps there are other or better ideas for improving this feature.

Last summer, I was diverted off the motorway several times because of traffic jams. At some point, MRA apparently changed the route automatically. I don't know whether this is always accompanied by a notification, but I certainly didn't notice one.

The only indication that the route had been changed was the white line showing the original route. Around the moment when you receive a navigation instruction, you have to notice this yourself. Especially around large and busy junctions, that is absolutely not always possible while riding.

Another thing that isn't clear to me is how much time I would actually save by taking the alternative route. I think that is important information when deciding whether or not to follow the detour.

When I'm towing the caravan, for example, I would often rather just stay in the traffic jam. The same applies in many situations when I'm riding the motorcycle. However, if I can see that an alternative route would save me, say, 2 hours, I know that I'm dealing with a serious traffic jam or road closure, and taking the alternative route obviously becomes much more appealing.

My suggestion would therefore be that, whenever MRA automatically changes the route, it should clearly show:

• that MRA has changed the route;
• why the route has been changed, for example because of a traffic jam or road closure (I seem to remember that the Zumo also showed this);
• how much time you are expected to save by taking the alternative route, and how many additional kilometres it involves;
• and possibly the option to accept or reject the alternative route.

If other navigation apps and devices can already do this, such as Google Maps and the Garmin Zumo devices, then MRA should obviously be able to do it even better.

I totally agree! The same thing happened to me as well, and I only noticed it because the driving route (blue line) started to separate from the planned route (grey line).

Before the route is recalculated there is waarbinnen and you can choose to follow the suggestion of not. Its not indicated hoe much time will be saved

Do I understand correctly that the notification disappears automatically and that, if you don’t make a choice, the “faster” route is automatically selected? In that case, this would explain the experience I described above

Sorry, so I am of the opinion that the motorcyclist should and must still think for himself ...

I keep zooming out and in with the Remotek One to keep an overview of what there must be in terms of traffic information and is not always up to date. If you are on the highway as a motorcyclist, you should always expect that there will be traffic jams, even suddenly, and this is not particularly nice but very annoying.

So, traffic jams can always be avoided with foresight on federal roads or country roads, a motorway is to be avoided.

District roads and dirt roads are the better choice

Let me give you an example. A while ago, I left Stuttgart for the Netherlands on my motorcycle. Shortly after I left, a serious accident occurred about an hour further along the route, resulting in the entire motorway being closed and adding 1.5 to 2 hours to the journey due to the detour. Overtaking on a motorcycle was hardly possible on those busy roads.

A group of riders with Garmins (yes, using the exact same traffic information) left the hotel shortly after me. They were warned about the incident right at the beginning of their route and were immediately routed via an alternative route. I, on the other hand, rode straight into the traffic jam because I thought it wouldn’t be too bad on a motorcycle.

At a moment like that, there is simply zero useful information available in MRA. Even zooming out a bit with the remote doesn’t give you any more useful information. At most, you can see that there is a traffic jam somewhere further ahead, but not enough information to judge how serious the situation is or whether taking an alternative route would be the smarter choice.

The warning appears and you have a short time to act. After that the faster route is selected automatically

Basically, one should expect traffic jams on highways nowadays, precisely because there are so many construction sites, and accidents are also piling up there.

On the subject in comparison to Garmin, the map information does not have to be automatically between MRA and Garmin even if both use HERE, there are also different versions depending on the HERE map base.

So don't rely on it and my tip, a motorcycle doesn't belong on the highway.
