    hi, a little long winded.

this is only positive and only one small issue and one odd behaviour which I was not aware could happen, sure someone will advise on this,
I am a long time user of MRA, here is a report on my recent trip to Ireland where we rode circa 2000 miles not many miles I know, but enough to leave time for Guinness or two at the end of the day and not have to wake too early the next day after a later night than expected, anyway.
DON'T WORRY I AM NOT GOING TO FEEDBACK EVERY MILE OR GIVE ANY LONG WINDED LESSONS
    read on of you wish.
I will add, that halfway through the trip I tried OsmAnd, as there are people on here who never shut up about how good it is, so i thought, what is this wonderful app of which they speak, well I must say it was waste of £9.99, (almost 2 pints of black stuff) it was pants of the highest order. I had practised with it for 4 weeks before departure using multiple scenarios and read all the instructions, so i was not a virgin user, as an example, the blue nav line kept disappearing off screen and would not zoom in at complicated junctions, got quite navigationally challenged going round the cork motorway system, if it was a real object it would have been hurled into the river, but that is only my experience, that app will never darken my doors or screen again.
    anyway enough about that sh*£e

There were two riders (with pillions) on this trip and both lifetime gold and next albeit the other is quite a new user following my recommendation.
I created an event in order for the other to have access to the planned routes, for whatever reason this took multiple invites for him to be able to access the event, everything was checked, all routes public, names and emails correct, still could not access the event but eventually we got there. no idea why. this part was new to me, might have to do some homework and research on that.

we both used carpuride 702b mine with iPhone the other with android, more fool him 🤣 the carpuride worked very well with no issues worth reporting that caused drama.

the evening before we left I checked the other persons phone as he is quite new to MRA, he assured me he had opened and saved all the routes.
it soon became evident that he had not done this, all he had done was download the route to the downloads folder, I showed him how to export the route from the routelab into NEXT and to auto sync to the NEXT app, this all worked seamlessly once he had understood what to do, this was carried out on his phone via next, not a computer, very easy to do
The routes were synced and uploaded to devices and all navigation was done using offline navigation, this was never changed for the whole trip, all maps correctly downloaded and updated.
navigation was done using routes. Not as tracks.

there were 9 days in all, each day, viapoint #1 was 1km or more away from actual departure point, i.e. hotel carparks. we both loaded the route at the same time and there were never any problems with Next starting the route from our location and directing us to the start point of the route, once we reached that point the full route began automatically, we used "start from the nearest point", this was chosen as there was no chance of NEXT mistakenly using another viapoint as start point.
I only use 2 via points on my routes, start and end, I have come unstuck before when having via points mid route, and if there were road closures, being constantly rerouted to ride over the via points. I used many shaping points to create the route I wanted to ride and the app was set to automatically skip these in the event of diversion.
During every route and for both of us, all navigation instructions remained the same and the routes did not change, this is why we did not use track as we wanted to find out if the routes would change according to devices, they did not. TBF fair there is no reason why this would happen as we were both using NEXT, it was reassuring that when we became split up, it would not be long before we saw recogniseable headlights in the mirrors.
Each day we stopped for 30-45 mins break. When we restarted the app, the route began from where we left off, I have read on here that the app would not start or only start from the beginning, this was not the case for us.

Battery useage on both devices did not cause any issues, TBF they were being charged by the bike ports, and neither of us noticed any overheating problems, yes the phones were warm but nothing to be alarmed about.

For the whole trip the only issue we had, and not the fault of MRA, was, after running a bit late we decided to skip a couple of shaping points manually, did this during a coffee break, however, this cannot be done on the CP screen, so this necessitated getting my phone out and manually skipping the points, this can be a nuisance but it's not the end of the world.
however, and this was the peculier part or perhaps I am not aware of the function, and I hope someone will enlighten me.
I took my phone out and manually skipped two shaping points, and told my buddy you will have to follow me now as you will be redirected back to the shaping points, so just try to ignore that for the next few miles. As he is a new user, he asked if I could show him how to skip points manually, when we looked at the route on his phone the two shaping points in question had been skipped and his route emulated mine, I could not explain this to him. It seemed as though when I changed the route on my phone it had somehow done the same on his. 🤷

Another issue that sometimes occurred, but it's almost irrelevant, during the evening if there was no internet available, 5G, perhaps some hotel blackspot area, (I am not one who needs wifi to read social media every 5 minutes so i never look for the code) if i tried to load the route for the following day just to have a look, it would not show on the screen, I could not work out why this happened, as the next day when we loaded and started the route all was well, but this usually coincided with having 5G, i will have to research that a bit more, we were still using offline navigation.

so all in all this was a very positive trip regarding the use of MRA. there were no issues that caused us any routing problems, admittedly we did not come across any road closures, but I did miss some shaping points that while planning I had purposely placed off my intended route to test the auto skip function and it worked perfectly, this was more of a lesson for my riding buddy to show him how it works and what to expect.

I understand that people have issues with use, but i imagine some of this is user error, and perhaps those concerned should just ask a question, instead of berating the devs or the app, although I suppose I did that at the beginning of the post regarding OsmAnd.

keep up the good work MRA team, this is the best all round planner and navigator app, and I have used many different types for comparison over 10s of thousands of miles.

@paul69 A nice read, thank you for sharing 👍
It just goes to show that a little research and time spent learning the app pays dividends in the end.

Thanks for the elaborate post 🙂

Exactly this is why we work so hard to create such a nice platform.
Obviously the app is not perfect yet but you do just confirm the simple "it works" part. Thanks for that!

You can actually get 2 pints for £9.99? That's amazing! 😆

indeed you can @Corjan-Meijerink , you just have to look in the right places, off the beaten track, obviously sometimes it was a little expensive, but hey, it's a holiday. ✌️
