      Hi,
I have noticed that the data consumption of the app is very high during navigation. For me, it's around 80-100 MB per 100 km. I have of course installed the offline maps.
Is such high data consumption normal?
      Best regards

@Tuxi In my experience it is. I don't care a lot because I have unlimited data.

@Tuxi, if you don't need the traffic info, you can switch to offline mode and kill data consumption completely.

That is definitely not expected data consumption when you have offline maps installed.

Are you sure the data is consumed by MyRoute-app?

@Tuxi Was there any map and route downloading in this?

@Stephen-Rowland: No, I had downloaded maps and all routes in advance via WLAN. That's what irritates me so much. Is it possible that the offline maps are not being used at all?

@Tuxi Unlless you have the option for use of offline maps enabled it will normally us online maps and only resort to offline if you have no data signal, However, when I'm using online i don't use anywhere near that amount of data. Suggest you check again in the next month. My app size is 229MB with 1.12GB of stored doc's and data. Currently that is one region of France and two routes downloaded. Perhaps you updated your maps or forgot you downloaded something?

@Stephen-Rowland, There is no option for the use of offline maps. You either download maps or not. If you do, they will be used. Also when you navigate online, the offline maps will be used whenever you have them. Only thing that will be done online is the route calculation itself. It is forced offline only when you enable offline navigation.

@Tuxi, data usage for online navigation contains no maps when you have downloaded them for offline usage. Other app tasks do require some data bandwith. It varies, people are reporting 50MB to 500MB per day of riding. To avoid that, you can enable offline navigation in the settings.

@Con-Hennekens Thanks for stepping in. I stand corrected, I think. However, it leaves me confused. I have offline navigation turned off mainly to ensure traffic is accounted for. However when touring in the Picos for example the yellow arrows appeared which means you are in offline mode. I thought that's why I downloaded the required maps and routes before the trip so that this facility for riding out of data range could kick in even with offline mode in the off setting. I had assumed wrongly, it seems, that although I have downloaded maps, that for the majority of time while online I was using the most up to date maps even if my downloaded ones might have gone out of date. I have not had the phone battery usage problem for a long time, my phone charges up quickly whilst navigating - Is this because I'm actually using a downloaded map even though I'm actually online

@Stephen-Rowland, as far as I know offline maps are even used if there are newer online maps. It is possible for online navigation to fall back to offline navigation whenever the app needs online data but cannot get it. That is because of recalculation (that is actually done online of offline is not explicitly enabled) or traffic info. For the battery drain I see no reason to believe that has causality with online or offline maps. Sure your data bandwidth gets higher, but I doubt that leads to much extra battery consumption if you already have the connection.

For your consideration: at present time, NN does not recalculate your route b/c of traffic, it will only show incidents like high traffic etc. on the screen. So in my use case, this is of no use and I´m only using offline maps. It simply does not help me, if I see the traffic jam maybe 2km ahead of it but be stuck in in anyway. 🙂

@Erdna, I went to lengths to explain that offline navigation and offline maps are two separate things 😉 . But if you prefer offline navigation that is of course completely fine. I do that myself also very often.

I apologize for this mistake. Of course, offline navigation - which would need offline maps - was meant. 🙂

Normally, offline maps should keep data usage low. Check for any app updates or background processes that might be using data, like traffic updates or route recalculations. If it continues, reaching out to app support could give you more insight.

ast weekend I undertook a longer tour (approx. 600 km) navigating with the app. Data consumption: 430 MB. Before each trip, I checked via WLAN whether I was using the latest offline maps. Of course, I don't want to navigate in offline mode, as I would then miss out on the traffic information.
I also noticed that at higher speeds and in the mountains in particular, the map often makes very large jumps, i.e. moves jerkily.
Alternatively, I have used Sygic as a navigation system and I get about 10-15% of the data usage.
