    Hi Rob,

    you can try it out, but my experience is, that the GPX 1.0 works best when transferring vom MRA to the Garmin XT.
    I know it sounds strange and if you continue to read in different forums and sites on the internet, you will find people proposing to use 1.1 an 1.2.

    If 1.0 works out fine for what you want to do and fits your workflow I see no reason to change it to 1.1

    For me personally ONLY 1.0 works 🙂

      @TomOnTour Of you use 1.0 you only have a start and end point and no shaping points. Basically it is a track. I wouldn't use it because in my opinion a route, 1.1 gives a better result.

        @Rob-Harris I also use v1.1 for the same reason as @Marinus-van-Deudekom. I also set the XT to ask me before auto recalc to prevent the XT from changing the route. Some disable it all together. Did a 9 day, 3800mi bike trip this past summer this way...very pleased with how it worked.

          gpx 1.1 (route, track, POI) is the way to go for transfer to the XT. Your MRA route Shaping points and Via points transfer without having to make conversions on the XT side. Of course, always use HERE maps when creating a route in MRA.

          Also, to minimize unwanted XT recalculation surprises, make sure your avoidance preferences are set the same on both sides. This will trip you up quick if MRA and the XT are out of sync.

          It's not a requirement, but I find it useful to import the MRA gpx file into Garmin Basecamp (BC) for interrogation, and then transfer the route from BC to the XT. It doesn't happen often, but sometimes Garmin recalculates the MRA route a little different than what you initially create. It's a lot easier to figure out things on a full BC desktop screen than on the small XT itself. It's almost always a matter of going back and adding a few more strategically located shaping points on the MRA route, and then doing the export/import process again. A lot of people are allergic to BC and won't use the program as an intermediary step. I'm pointing out this option just in case.

            @Marinus-van-Deudekom
            This is exactly what I expected, when I started some tests, but learned that I get all the waypoints with GPX 1.0.

            I was really surprised, but I was happy that it solved my problem 🙂

              @Rob-Harris I hate track to route conversion in the gps as one loses all route info. I call it routes for dummies lol. As a BC dinosaurus I adapted my route making method to MRA and most important besides a correct route, you can set the off route recalculation mode to automatic. So here we go:

              To optimize routes in MRA when you are happy with the route you just made so that everyone drives the same route (preferably on the HERE map, later you can also view it on the TT map and adjust it if necessary):

              • save your route as gpx 1.1 (track and POI)

              • click routelab and then track logs

              • open folder or create new folder (I use the same folder format in the track logs as I do in my routes. Matter of remaining uniform and everything is easy to find), click +new - open track log and upload the track you just saved.

              • back to routelab - routes and choose your route

              • click on the three dashes next to route points and choose track logs - add

              • in the list, choose the track log in the folder where you saved it. If it was not saved in a folder you will find it at the bottom of the folders . It now appears in red on the map.

              • Now choose toolkit - optimize route - click shortest route (default setting is fastest route). Your route will now be recalculated. So the black route line will deviate from the red track line.

              • Now draw the black route line to the red track for all the places where it deviates.

              • and voila, route is now optimized for both Garmin and TT. Set your toolkit route optimize back to fastest time as MRA remembers the latest setting.

              In basecamp this all goes faster as you can make a track directly from the route and it will be visible automatically. I have been using this method for years now to everyone's satisfaction.

              For Garmin the gpx 1.1 (route, tracks, POI) is now completely correct and will not deviate from the original wether you use MyDrive, Tread or the connector. The waypoints (hand) will show correctly in your route as a real waypoint and not as a spoken shaping point (alert on arrival). And most importantly, every garmin can be set to automatic recalculation on, without any issues.

                @Guzt That is a clever way of getting routes and tracks aligned.
                On your last but one point, "• Now draw the black route line to the red track for all the places where it deviates". I would do it the other way around. That is, add waypoints so that the shortest route is forced along your previously planned route.
                Or am i missing something?

                  @Tony-13 by dragging the black route line to the red track line you automatically insert a shapingpoint (route point, via point) so there is no need for an extra waypoint (hand iso droplet). Waypoints should only be used for real stops to my humble opinion or to alert a situation.

                    I transfer 1.0/1.1/1.2 GPX files from my mobile phone to my Garmin Zumo XT using the Garmin Drive app. I haven't encountered any issues so far.

                    This is what i do:

                    1. copy/edit/create a route in the webbased MRA tool and have it saved;
                    2. Open my mobile phone and then open the MRA (Android) app;
                    3. Open the route i created/edited and select the share/download button;
                    4. The selecting the type of GPX file (i.e. 1.0 or 1.1 or 1.2 type) and press the download button;
                      In the pop-up menu i select export and in the next pop-up i select share;
                    5. in the share selection pop-up i select the Driver app

                    This app will then send the GPX file from my mobile phone to my XT via bluetooth/wifi/hotspot. And it is placing the gpx file in the correct path/folder.

                    Not sure if this will help you, but it is better than fooling around usinbg Windows Explorer and di some copy/paste actions hoping this will work out perfectly.
