@Michael-Henson Sorry, I should have said welcome to the forum. I think your HD Boom Box would require your routes to be planned on the HERE map so you would need a Gold subscription to have access to that and all of the other maps and planning tools.

@Nick-Carthew @Nick-Carthew Thanks for the welcome, and the feedback, Nick.
Funny thing, yesterday I did about a 70 mile route, and for the first half or so, it kept telling me to turn around, or turn here(wrong way).
However, about 35-40 miles in, it started giving me "exactly" what I had written for the route. This has really got me perplexed.
I am leading 22 bikes in 3 weeks, to a fundraiser event nearly 300 miles away. I was hoping to use this app for my routing, but I'm not feeling very confident right now......

Well, surely you understand that if you do not put in the "correct" file, the navi will not work correctly. ๐Ÿ˜œ
Do you know which map your navi on the bike uses? This is utmost important to know in order for us to assist any further!

Hint: it may be that you missed your first waypoint for instance... But that assumes your navi uses routes instead of tracks, so please tell us more about the navi on your bike. Similarly, please share your route here. Make sure to set the privacy setting to public!

@Stefan-Hummelink My bike is a 2019 Harley Ultra Limited. The GPS is the Boom Box GPS. I think it is also called Defence.

@Michael-Henson you likely will need to use a lot more waypoints to help keep it from wanting to recalculate.

Even exporting a *.gpx file that was planned on the app/website using HERE maps, when transferred to the Garmin ZUMO XT can be quite different. Same if exporting to a TomTom user. And the only way around it that works for me is to have enough waypoints to help prevent excessive rerouting.

I'm a "free" user, and have been experimenting with the app. I have created several routes, but when I download them to my 2019 Harley Davidson Ultra, the instructions are totally different than what I have routed. It constantly tells me to turn around, or make turns that are not related to my route. I triple check the routes before I download them, to make sure I am not putting waypoints in the wrong lane of travel and such. Do I need to upgrade, to be able to get my routes loaded, as I create them???

@Michael-Henson According to the support page, you need to create routes for the BoomBox in the HERE map. As previously mentioned, you need a gold subscription or a subscription to the navigation module of the app for that. In that case, you can also use the HERE map on the website to create your routes.

There might be something wrong with the placement of your waypoints. Could you please provide a link to that route in this thread? Perhaps we can help you that way!

One last note, according to that same support page, HD has not yet provided (BoomBox?)manuals for models from 2019 onwards.

And the HD Boom Box had another major update this year. Iโ€™m not sure but I think they have followed BMW and moved from the HERE map to the TomTom map.

I've had this same experience myself and it is very frustrting! Although I'm certainly not an expert, what was happening to me is what Stefan mentioned above. I was failing to ride through the first waypoint. What I learned from this - do not put the starting waypoint in my driveway or right in front of my house. Now I usually start the route in the middle of the street about a block away from my house. Now that I do that, I do not have this problem anymore. (Of course, the difference between HERE and Open Street Maps could also be causing problems. Maybe subscribe for a brief time to see if doing that helps?)

Haha we all make that mistake once until we get reminded of it hehe. This is also the real reason why we have requested the route multiple times in this thread so we can check if there may be mistakes in the route, such as the one you referred to. Yet, no route was shared thusfar. ๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜

@Michael-Henson please post your route so we can at least try to help!

I have made the ride "Capt. Joe's", public.
Yesterday, I did another 100 mile ride, with much better results. There was an additional checkbox on my bikes GPS "list", having something to do with the "show route" options. I only had one instance where the bikes GPS tried to "help" me, with a shortcut. Progress. Thank you for all of the feedback.

The "problem" here is the fact that @Michael-Henson is a free user which can only use the OSM map.

Users who used the comparisson option (Gold Member) has seen that when comparing. The routelines of 2 maps are not identical. Also that routepoint which is placed correct on one map but at the wrong direction on the second map.

Advice for @Michael-Henson set you routepoint at such a position it cannot do wrong on different maps.

                          • Not on crossings.
                          • Not on round-a-bouts
                          • Not on split lane roads.
                          • Not on roads where there is a parallel road beside it.

Use as less as possible points. This works very good for one person but if you share the route with others who have their one device. This strategy could be a problem.

When you use this guidelines. It max. increases your change to get a proper route for your HD Boom.
