      Hi all I have mra gold and I love it but.. no off line maps is a bit of a pain. If I click on off line maps in my account page it take me to a subscription for my route navigation. I don’t need navigation as I have a garmin xt, if I do purchase navigation will I be able to generate routes for my xt using mra? Tia

        @Lyndon-Evans, You are already able to create routes for your Garmin, using your Gold subscription. A Navigation subscription will not add anything for you, if you are not using MRA's own Navigation. The planner is an online service, there are no offline maps for it.

            @Peter-Schiefer yes it’s unfortunate most use online, there apps out there that you can use off line maps, I just like using mra and paid for a subscription too. Base camp and previously map source iOverlander used for 20 plus years but I’m not a huge fan, when mra came along( for me) it was a revaluation in ease of use without the garmin faff. I refuse to take my expensive laptop just to plan routes off line, I don’t know where you live but where I travel I bearly get 3g let alone a good data connection. Thanks for taking time out to reply though I do appreciate it.

              @Lyndon-Evans, the difference is of course between a piece of software and an online service. However there are thoughts about offline planning. But building something like that in a web-based online service is not an easy task. So it will be something long-term or never at all...

                @Peter-Schiefer Just a clarification. Garmin is not making any more function enhancements to Basecamp (BC), but they continue fix OS bugs associated with new Windows/Mac releases. Garmin does not support direct route transfer from BC to the XT2, but you can certainly copy a BC GPX file to the XT2 file system. I use this technique all the time on my XT.

                In short, BC isn't dead yet. It will be a viable option for the next several years. Having said this, I like using MRA Web for creating routes that will execute in my XT. MRA route planning/creation is simply more pleasant to work with.

                  @Peter-Schiefer We're mostly in agreement. 😀

                  Your comment about necessary adjustments of BC to future OS of Windows and Mac is true. My MacBook Pro with the last Intel chip before Apple moved on to the M1 isn't compatible with BC. When doing a route recalculation in BC, the program immediately terminates. When I opened a case with Garmin, they told me they don't have the test Mac HW to investigate, much less resolve.

                  I think Windows will work for some time to come. Windows 11 is compatible, and it will be years before EOL on that release. BUT the writing is on the wall. It is just a matter of time.

                    @Lyndon-Evans i use MRA and Basecamp (windows)and there are still many aspects of Basecamp use with Garmin products that MRA cannot emulate. Having said that i like MRA and used it on my 10 day tour of Spain last year just on my phone with Michelin paper maps and my Zumo XT. If you don’t want to use an expensive laptop an old ex business MS Surface pro 3 with 8gb ram and 256gb ssd can be picked up for about £100-120. I bought one recently and it easily runs Basecamp and if you rarely go on line with it I wouldn’t worry about being stuck on Windows 10

                      @Mzokk Hi, many thanks for your reply.
                      I’ve used basecamp for years and had to with my previous sat nav units, main thing that attracted me to XT is being able to transfer or alter/create route's on the fly ant not use the horrible basecamp . I do not want to take a laptop with me . Thanks for reply though
