I'm trying to plan a trip from Dieppe in France to Irun in Spain avoiding tolls. motorways and environmental zones but it is taking me through Le Mans which is in the Ccrit'air zone so it would appear that the "Avoid Environmental Zones" option in the toolkit isn't working as it still takes me through Le Mans with or without this option set, am I missing something?

      Kind regards,
      Del

After such a question, I am curious what exactly the function of <Avoid Environmental Zones> in the toolbox is.
There are many different restrictions in different regions and zones.
For example, the area you specifically refer to is a zone where you are allowed to drive under certain conditions and to comply with these conditions, your vehicle must have a registration and a corresponding sticker.

@Derek-Holyhead I think the issue is that many Crit'air zones aren't permanent. Only a couple of large cities have permanent zones, most zones are only 'activated' when air quality drops below certain thresholds.

So in most cases you'll be able to go through Le Mans without a sticker.

BTW, you can quite easily (and cheaply) order a Crit'air sticker online for a small one-time fee. Even for a one-time visit to France it's a no-brainer to me, because you'll never have to worry about it again. Unless of course your vehicle doesn't qualify for it.

            Not always.
Your vehicle must be from after December 31, 2005.

So if I have the sticker I can go through Le Mans anytime?

              Regards,
              Del

@Jack-van-Tilburg and it could be mentioned that this has nothing to do with the environment, it is only an excuse for an extra tax

Which is why I said "Unless of course your vehicle doesn't qualify for it".

Yes, if you have a sticker (assuming your vehicle qualifies for a purple (1) or green (electric vehicles) one), you can enter any environmental zone in France (and the Geneva zone as well) at any time. If you only qualify for a higher numbered sticker (yellow (2), orange (3), dark red (4) or grey (5)) one, you may not be able to enter all zones at all times.

Not sure that's true. The fee is so low (< 5 euro, one-time, per vehicle) that (after costs of handling the request + printing and shipping the sticker) it hardly qualifies as a tax.

                    Oops. I stand corrected. 😊
