Great Britain Trip '23
-
For the past two weeks I have been touring the Lake District, Scotland, Yorkshire Dales and Yorkshire Moors.
Great Britain is definitely one of my favorite destinations. There is so much varied landscape there you can never get bored while driving.
For my trip I did not make all the routes myself. For the simple reason that the MyRoute-app Library contains a lot of very nice routes. I absolutely recommend everyone to use it. to make.
In the LakeDistrict I drove: The Lake District Passes Anti Clockwise
And in the Yorkshire Dales I rode: Round trip Yorkshire Dales from Skipton
I adjusted this with a start in the north of the route because I was staying near Kirkby Stephen.
I don't have to say anything about these route because both routes have a review that I couldn't have described better.
Although at the LakeDistrict route could have been written that you better not do the HardKnott Pass at the end . That's pretty hard work there .
And uhhh..........the road surface is very bad. If you go down hill too fast and you have to brake hard to make a turn, it can happen that the ABS of your motorcycle gets to work, which results in a much longer braking distance. In the Netherlands we call that "a butt squeezer"
Thanks for sharing these fantastic five star routes Nick Carthew!!!!!!! -
@Jack-van-Tilburg I love going to the UK too!
This summer I'm meeting @nick-carthew again and we're going to Wales for 2 weeks -
@Corjan-Meijerink
I have been to North Wales (Snowdonia) many times. A fantastically beautiful environment and it will never get boring.
Haven't been there for too long and need to visit again soon.
Beautiful routes that I have already driven several times are here: North Wales. But Nick will know his way around there -
Thank you for your kind words @Jack-van-Tilburg I'm happy that you enjoyed your time in the UK. It's called Hardknott pass for a reason The clockwise version of the Lake District Passes has Hardknott at the beginning and in my opinion a better way to see it from east to west. Lake District Passes Clockwise
-
@Nick-Carthew Agree with you Nick. Did a clockwise route of all the passes a few weeks ago. However, I started with Kirkstone Pass as it was near toy accommodation and then did Hardknott from the East. Brilliant day's trip.
-
@Dave-J-0 Wrynose Pass acts as a great opener for Hardknott Pass.
-
@Nick-Carthew Yes. Lots of fun was had.
-
@Jack-van-Tilburg aha! That explains your absence from the forum lately hahaha.
Welcome back.

@Jack-van-Tilburg
I was in Snowdonia and Wales last summer. Extremely beautiful countryside and good roads!
In 3 weeks I go to Scotland and made all my routes in MR MyRoute App (website). I'm looking forward to Scotland! -
@Dikke-Wim
Wales and Scotland are my favorites after fifteen holidays in the UK.
But I also fall short in many areas with that.
Calling a favorite region in GB is actually "kill your darlings" -
@Jack-van-Tilburg My area in the south west is worth a visit. 100s of miles of spectacular coastline to explore and two National Parks, Exmoor and Dartmoor.
-
@Nick-Carthew
That area is definitely still on my travel goals. I am very curious about it. -
@Jack-van-Tilburg I met with some Dutchies last week who were using some of my routes. I would gladly meet you if you ever found yourself in Devon.
-
I would like that too @Nick-Carthew
