Four day test
-
I have just returned from a four day trip to the Pyrenees using Navigation Next for the first time.
Overall the experience was very good, the maps were clear and the voice prompts were clear and well timed.
There were one or two issues which may be in part, due to my inexperience in using the app. When deviating from the planned route the app was sometimes very slow to adapt to the change of route but on other occasions the correction was immediate.
I downloaded and saved for use offline the five routes I had planned but from time to time when the phone signal was lost the navigation stopped working. maybe I am missing a trick here but if it doesn't work in the absence of a phone signal it rather limits its use as many of the routes I use are somewhat remote and mountainous.
I look forwards to learning from your comments!

@Roger-Doidge I'm curious too. In June I want to go to Scotland and I'm planning to navigate with offline route like jou did. (Roaming in Scotland is very expensive).
Hopefully, someone has good comments about 'missing a trick'.
-
Did you load the route from the Downloads section?
-
@Doug-Robinson Not yet. I have to make the routes first Today I had problems downloading my maps.... Grrr. This is still not working correctly.
-
@Dikke-Wim, Yes, that's a general frustration for many.
-
@Roger-Doidge Sounds good!
Offline navigation (using downloaded maps) might have solved that issue. If you've got a bad reception, we ask if you want to switch to the offline mode.
The corrections should be almost immediately.Offline available routes can be found in the downloads as @Doug-Robinson mentioned. In the coming update we made some improvements regarding the flow of finding them there

@Corjan-Meijerink Without the "Download update" for previously downloaded maps I cannot download new Maps/countries. Tried more than 10x the update without success. Hopefully the next update will cover this.
I know you are all working very hard to cover many bugs and to add new features. Keep up the good work.
-
@Dikke-Wim I know for sure the next update won't fix this Most likely we'll work on it after that one.
-
@Doug-Robinson I have not yet had to use offlline , however, a fast approaching 9 day adventure to the Appalacian Mountains is just around the corner and I anticipate areas of no internet connection - and the offline seems a bit confusing (or I am making it that way!)..
To use it, is it not simply just having the Offline Navigation turned on in the Navigation Settings - Functionial tab? My understanding is that if you are on an active route with this enabled, and internet is lost for whatever reason, the route continues?
Or do the routes also have to be downloaded - obvioulsy when connected to the internet?
-
@GT-JWR Yes you need to download the route.
Open the route and click the download button.
Scroll to the last option - Make offline available.
When you need to use it, open the Download tab in the Navigation menu and click on your route to use it.
-
@Nick-Carthew very good, thanks!

I have exactly followed the instructions for using a downloaded route and it just doesn't work. I created a short route and "made available for offline use". I then selected this route from my "downloads" as soon as I tried to start navigation it said "something went wrong, unable to calculate route".
Am I doing something wrong? -

Am I doing something wrong?Difficult to say if you’re doing anything wrong without seeing your route. Can you share it please.

@Nick-Carthew
Excuse my ineptitude, how do I share the route? -

Excuse my ineptitude, how do I share the route?Firstly, make sure that the privacy of the route is set to public. Then copy the url (web address) and paste it in your reply.

@Nick-Carthew
Nick, here is the url myrouteapp.com/route/open/7470383I see from your profile that you are a Devon boy. Until we moved to France 20 years ago I lived in Plymouth and walked on Dartmoor regularly. I still miss the moor.

@Roger-Doidge Cream on First
Move route point one onto the road, that should fix it.
-
@Nick-Carthew hahaha, people who put jam on first are also allowed to exist
-
@Nick-Carthew Thanks, I'll try that.
Which first, jam or cream? -
