Hi From North East UK

Hi, I've been planning routes on myrouteapp and find them so much easier than the dreaded Base Camp........
I own a Tracer 900GT and am starting to plan my 15 day Euro tour for this summer, taking in Route de Napoleon, Route de Grande Alps then a 14 pass route East to West across the alps ending on the Grossglockner. As I've mentioned the routes are so much simpler to plan on the computer, but I cannot get them to match in Base Camp when I download them so I'm thinking of getting the phone based navigation app to match.
Any advice on routes or the phone app would be greatly appreciated. -
Welcome to this nice forum @Ray-Blighe-0
Why would you use BaseCamp?
-
@Jack-van-Tilburg
Hi, I was using base camp to then store and download the routes to my Garmin satnav. I just wanted to check the exact positioning of the waypoints as the Garmin can be a bit particular and take you down side streets if the waypoint isn't an exact match for the road you want. -
@Ray-Blighe-0
I get that.
The Garmin Navs are not friendly to routes created on "foreign" maps.
With MRA Navigation you certainly don't have those issues anymore -
@Jack-van-Tilburg MRA Navigation? Is that the phone app?
-
When you planned the routes in MRA, did you make sure you had the Here (Garmin) maps selected?
Garmin devices use Here maps, so if you planned them in MRA with a different map the device could calculate the route differently when you transfer them.
You can also transfer routes directly from MRA to a Garmin on Windows or Mac using the built in connector, this bypassing Basecamp. However, you could still suffer from the routes recalculating differently if you don’t use Here maps in MRA.

Thanks. Must admit, I'm really liking the ease of making a route, just need to sort my transfer to Garmin issues or get the phone app, still undecided.
Great forum though, some great ideas. -
@Dae-0 Thanks for the info about the maps. To be honest, I still have issues with Base Camp and Garmin planning routes in UK. It either drops off the route half wat through and re-calculates fastest route to the end, or if I miss a waypoint then keeps trying to take me back and I cannot find a way to skip that way point on the move.
Issues I could really do without while travelling abroad. -
@Ray-Blighe-0. welcome to the forum, great tour.

@Ray-Blighe-0 I presume you have a Garmin XT and you can add the 'skip waypoint' button to the right hand side of the screen. Used to be invaluable when I was using the XT. That said, I have moved across to the mobile app now and liking where the app is going.
Link to show how you set up the skip waypoint' button on your XT

Note: the Here map is a "Gold" feature

True, although you can work around the differences in maps by putting enough shaping points in the route so the Garmin doesn’t have any option but to calculate the route in the same way that MRA does.

The HERE map is also available for those with an MRA Navigation subscription.

@Nick-Carthew
Yep I know.
But TS doesn't have MRA Navigotion (yet)
(I should have mentioned it though ) -
HI Ray,
I have the Garmin XT also.
Whilst I am super impressed with the development of the MRA Next Beta to date I am not sure I would want to use a Beta version in isolation for a full blown tour as extensive as yours.
I do intend using it in April going to Wales but I will also run the XT as well. -
hi @Steve-Lynch
I concur, during my forthcoming trip to the Austrian Alps in summer, I will be using my XT as my main nav aid, however I will also run the next in the background on an old iPhone, and if it fairs well I may sell my XT and by a rugged phone. ️
