Designed route has been split into two?
-
Morning all,
I own a Garmin Zumo XT. I designed a route that MUST follow EXACTLY a particular route as it is a large charity ride and I will have over 100 bikes behind me - so can't make a mistake. For this reason I used VIA's rather than shaping points and will turn off any live traffic updates on the day to prevent my Zumo deciding it's better to take me a different way! The route has a total of 47 VIA's. When I exported it onto my Zumo a strange thing happened. It told me that because there were over 29 waypoints it had divided the route into two. So I now have a part 1 and a part 2 on my Zumo. Has anyone come across this problem before? Any solutions?
Best wishes,

@stephen-morrell In my Garmin (a Zümo 595) there is a maximum number of hard points. I think for the 595, that maximum is 29, but don't take that for a certainty. I believe all of the recent Garmins (a XT most probably too) have a similar maximum. So that's most probably the reason why it has been split (by your device, if you'd ask me).
On the other hand, I don't think making all points hard points (in MRA, indicated by the hand instead of by the pin) is the way to accomplish what you want, as there are also some big disadvantages doing so (like e.g. your GPS repeatedly making you hit a missed point until you hit it, while you are turning circles in the meantime). Instead, I would make a track of the correct route, import that into your GPS, and there, convert the track into a route. That's how I do it with my 595. The route will then be correctly showing, 1-on-1, your route. I also, indeed, turn off recalculation but always show the track visible, so that I always know where the intended route is.
And if you don't trust the route in your device, you can always compare it to yout original route, of course.

29 waypoints is indeed the maximum number that a Zumo can handle per route.
But you don't need 29 waypoints in your route. Make sure you place a formation point every 4 to 5 KM and set a waypoint in certain places.
Export your route to your ZUMO XT, make the track visible and you can just use the route.
Or convert the track to a trip
