    Hello,

I am in Chile and trying to use MyRouteApp to navigate.

I am using a dumb android auto head unit and my spare phone is in my tank bag connected to a USB socket.

    Notice "my spare phone"

I do not want to use my actual phone as I do not want it to be on charge all day and so kill the battery yet, if I didn't have the phone on charge to protect the battery, I risk the phone battery running out of power and an essential piece of kit which is used for communication becoming redundant.

I am also carrying a tablet which I use to modify routes, send emails and check various things whilst in my hotel each night. I am writing this at 0300 here using my tablet.

The spare phone has until now, not been connected to the network as there is no SIM card in it but, I modified a route for tomorrow and came up with the two device limit so have now made my spare phone one of the two devices.

All well and good in a perfect scenario.

Yesterday it snowed on the way down to Ushuaia.

There were high winds - gusting 70-80km/h at times so then ride was miserable and dangerous at times.

Had my spare phone failed, I would have swapped it for my actual phone but with the two device limit, my normal phone would not be able to run MyRouteApp app.

I could of course have taken out my tablet, in the snowy conditions and by the side of the road in the freezing temperatures and attempted to disconnect this device from the system and so made my normal phone one of the two devices.

I could have also ruined my tablet or frozen to death whilst trying to do the above.

I understand the two device limit but I am out here at the bottom of South America using this in the real World and really need three devices to be working at the same time.

When the weather is inclement and you are riding a motorcycle, the last thing you want to do is to take devices out of your pocket or baggage and sort things by the side of the road.

In a car this is obviously much easier with a heater on and nice and dry.

I would suggest that the two device limit is increased to three devices for the reasons that I have described above and very soon in my case as tomorrow, if I have a problem then I will have a real problem simply because of this limit.

    Regards Nick

When connecting a third device, you are prompted to logoff another one which is done automatically. Nothing with a significant impact to the user experience happens.

Now if you would be connecting a forth, you will be blocked.
However, the original two devices you already used and are logged in to, are still active 🙂

Then if you would not even have internet - the app ignores the device limit completely and you can proceed without issues. The whole idea of the device limit is to prevent abuse (which works very well) but definitely not ruin the trip of people that use one more device expected 😉

          Thank you for your responses.

I understand the two device limit and the reason behind it

I also know how to "knock off" a device to allow another to become the second and have done this very simply in my hotel room (which is warm and dry and has internet access).

What I was trying to show (but obviously unsuccessfully) is that when out in the open, on a motorcycle, in inclement weather, you do not have the luxury of being in a hotel room and simply knocking off one device to select another and, in the scenario which I described where I am using a spare phone to navigate with (a third device) and had I required to use my main phone due to issues, swapping devices in snowy conditions and high winds outdoors is not so easy as a hotel room and could actually lead to bigger problems.

I can get round it by disconnecting my 3rd device from the internet (which is normally the case as it has no SIM card and is simply an old phone) then removing that device when connecting to the system on my phone.

          That gives me three devices.

In theory I could do this with multiple devices therefore getting round the two device limit.

What I am trying to show is a real life situation (I can share a photograph of the weather here yesterday in Ushuaia) and what impact the two device limit could have on a person relying on it .

The fact that I could have multiple devices using MyRouteApp as long as they are not connected to the internet is a way round the limit but should I need to modify a route (which is what happened) I need to take one device offline to get another to work.

My suggestion is to increase the two device limit to three devices and use the scenario I have described as the reason behind this change.

I think you are overthinking it. Unlisting another device is done simply by a single tap on the screen. This at the moment you are starting up your spare phone. Many people do it like that. And If you find that too cumbersome, just contact support. They will do a proposition to arrange that.

I am just an enthusiastic MRA user, and hope you will be one too!

I have said my piece so will leave it at that.
