Good idea, but if you avoid cities it is no longer so important, at least in Germany if you also avoid the federal road.

Stay on small streets and avoid towns !!

Many mountainesque roads in Germany, France or Belgium show a 90 or 100 kph speedlimit, while you are a daredevil even going 50 on average. So Personally I don't think planning on speed limits adds something significant to the adventure.

But a road that looks like a nice curvy road with a speed limit of 50 versus a similar road with a speed limit of 90/100 (even if you cannot achieve that speed in reality) ... I'd know which of both I would choose

@Kirsten-De-Weerd, I would too, by the use of streetview 😉
But hey, I am not against the idea if it helps some. I am just not one of them.
However I don't think it's an easy task.

When planning multi-day trips, I don't check every single road using Streetview. Further more, I've come across quite a lot of roads in Germany where there is no Streetview available.

            I don't think it's an easy task.

The data is available, so it sounds like a gradient color based on an existing metric. (Spoken like a non developer 😉)

Maybe something for the cumming update of the web planner!

Most riders/planners would absolutely love this feature!

There's nothing worse than planning a curvy route, only to find when you get there the speed limit is a blanket 50/70 kph. (I'm looking at you, Black Forest B500.)

The same happens across Oxfordshire and Warwickshire, where a lot of roads are limited to 50 mph, but not for safety reasons. Grrr.

soo true that, spoiled that route completely, I do understand it's because the riders/drivers who speed along there at 150+ have caused this to happen.

to achieve, we must first attempt ✌️

That's true. Germany held Google camera's off for quite some time. Since June 2023 they are allowed again and they are catching up pretty quick! 😉

I like this idea, especially if it's implemented as an optional map layer. A simple color gradient would provide useful context without cluttering the planning screen, and users who don't need it could just leave it disabled.

When navigating a route using MRA Navigation Next, the speed limit of the current road/location is displayed.

That got me thinking: is there any way to get an indication of the speed limits when planning a route? Like an overlay with a color gradient indicating if the speed limit at each particular segment is more towards the 30/50 kph end or the 70/90 pkh range?

Could help avoiding slower and/or congested areas when planning a trip.

@Kirsten-De-Weerd there is an OpenStreetMap which shows some speed limits
                          8138ee9d-fbb4-4ebb-a185-16b1cf9060bb-image.jpeg
it is not totally comprehensive as it relies on users editing the OpenStreetMap map & adding the limits

                          BlackView BV7100, Android 12
Navigate "Routes as Tracks" in Offline mode with Offline Maps
No Wifi, no internet, no interruptions, works well

If that OSM map with speed limits could be added as an overlay map in MRA just like the Traffic, MRA RouteXperts and MRA Scenic overlays that would be amazing.

I've mentioned the speed limit overlay idea a few times over the years and for me would be such a positive I'd even pay additional fees to have this!

The issue with that is it relies on the accuracy of the data on the map, as @brian-mcg also points out. I live in Goring on Thames (at the bottom of the map that @brian-mcg posted) and I can tell you that there are a significant number of errors in that small map area shown.

I also like the idea but can imagine the complaints when users realise just how inaccurate the data is.

@Stevedo-6-0 agreed. The old adage of crap input, crap output is valid. It wouldn't necessarily need to be the OSM data. Google and HERE both show speed limits of a road (which itself isn't 100% accurate) when navigating so the data of speed limits is there, I guess it's just a case of whether
                                a) that data is accessible
                                b) whether the data is prohibitively expensive
                                c) can it be coded into MRA simply

Any of those 3 may be impossible to resolve in a cost effective and proportionate way.

I can only assume the data is already accessible as it is displayed on screen while riding. How easily it could be turned into a Map Overlay might be something else.
