      Hello Folks, I am a new member from Northern Ireland. I have been riding road bikes since I turned 17 in 1978 ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I retired about a year ago and currently own these two beauties. IMG_20220929_141404843_HDR.jpg
      I've had the old BMW R1150GS since 2004. Its a 2002 model I bought for a trip to Norway (my other bike was a Suzuki GSXR600 at the time) and after initially hating it it became a keeper. It has 80,000 miles on it or 130,000 Kms

      My first motorcycle tour was in 1981 two up camping in England and Wales on a Honda 250 Superdream.....I couldn't do it now! and I have toured in Ireland, England (lots in Scotland) Wales, France, Belgium, Spain and Italy. I still have ambitions to visit Holland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia and return to Norway and hope to do so over the next couple of years before I'm too old!!

      I graduated from maps in tank bags and instructions tapped to the tank in 2004 when I bought a Garmin Streetpilot 2610 in 2004 for my Norway trip. What a revelation especially when trying to get out of unknown cities. I still have that old unit Zumo 340 Zumo 390 a BMW Nav IV and Currently mostly use a Zumo XT. I am comfortable using Garmin basecamp but I know many detest it!

      However my Africa Twin has Android Auto and I became interested in the NEXT app. I downloaded the first release as a Trial and liked it.

      I reviewed it here https://www.ukgser.com/community/threads/testing-mra-next-and-android-auto.357712/

      I note that some of the minor issues identified in testing the app have already been adressed.

      Question is the relationship between the route planner and app is a bit confusing. If I want to use Here maps on the app as a backup to my zumo and load GPX files created in Basecamp or the route planner? What do i need?

                I'm not sure I understand your question correctly.
                But I would say you need a Gold account so that you can select the Here cards in the App and the Planner.
                If this answer does not fit your question, please enlighten on your question.

                  @Jack-van-Tilburg

                  Thanks for the reply Jack. I intend to use the App with Here maps to replicate the routes I have on the Zumo XT on the Africa Twin's Android Auto Capable screen. To use as a backup in case there is an issue with the XT. The app gives me access to Here maps for navigation (and download?) and I am confident using basecamp. So can i use basecamp to create GPX files that I can use with the app and Android Auto without worrying about the routing app? I would keep backups of the GPX files I created on my phone.

                    If I had to make a choice in this situation, I would no longer use Basecamp.
                    Garmin, like MRA, uses Here maps but adapts them to their systems and uses their own algorithm for calculating and navigating the routes. It can therefore differ from the MRA applications and so the routes, created with Basecamp, do not have to match exactly if they are used with MRA.
                    Conversely, MRA routes on the Garmin systems (XT) correspond better to the planning.
