Change route between waypoints
-
I am a new user and was very impressed by the route-planning tool.
One thing I miss or have not found yet, is the possibility to change route settings between waypoints.
Just to give you one example what I am referring to for better understanding:
Start of my route is in a city and I want to get out of there as fast as possible also using the highway. From the second waypoints onwards, I want to calculate the route with as many twisties as possible and avoiding the highway.
Is this possible to plan this in one route or do I have to prepare two? Thanks for the help

Hallo @Werner-19
It is possible in one route, but you have to add mote waypoints to a route.
The quick option is to create two routes -
Thanks for the quick answer.
How can I do it in one route? -
Place a waypoint there where you start.
Then the second waypoint there where you leave the highway
Then on every road you want to drive a waypont (every 3 a 5 km, when the road is curvy and with intersections) -

A lot is dependent on which device you are using on your bike. But in general I would advise NOT to use any "twisty route" options or any other non-default calculation options. The problem with them is that they do not translate to your device automatically, so your device does not know with which settings your route has been planned. That's recipe for disaster...Of course you can use the TomTom twist-route option to calculate a route, but I would always make it equal to the default-options of whatever map you are using. So the steps would be:
- Create a twisty route on the TomTom map
- Create a new default route on the map that you are actually using on your device (might be the same tomtom map).
- Overlay your twisty route on your new route
- Draw your new route to be equal to your twisty route, adding as many shapingpoints as needed.
This new route is the route you want to use on your device, with the factory default routing options. This procedure makes your route independent from any device-settings. Another option would be to recalculate your route on the basis of the track from the twisty route, but then you loose your waypoints.
Now if you start drawing your route at the point where the twisties begin, from within the city any device will take you to the startingpoint in the fastest way possible, also by highway if that's quicker.

even if you have set "avoid highways" in the toolkit menu, you can force your route onto highways, by carefully placing waypoint on the highways.
Always place those waypoints carefully on the right/left side of the road.
And you may have to add more waypoints than usual, as MRA or your GPS might guide you away from the highway as soon as possible and on to the same highway later.
Competitors like calimoto do have an explicit feature, whre you can chose different routing profiles for different parts of your route. A feature I personally missed only very, very occasionally. -
@Werner-19 I think the answers above already cover this but my tactic is to start each route at a starting point at some distance from my hotel (in your case this would be the first waypoint of the first road you really want to take; This allows the GPS to calculate the most efficient route from where your car/motorcycle is to that first point, highway or no highway.
My last point is then really in front of the next hotel because that is where i must end up
