Another fuel station question...

I searched and researched here, but either I'm missing something or I am trying to find a function that doesn't exist...

I downloaded and rode a route (.gpx) in offline mode ( no SIM in my tablet) Partway along the route I needed fuel and from time to time a grey box had been popping up with a fuel pump symbol and a distance. When I touch this box, I get a message that says something like 'unable to add a waypoint while navigating a route'

So how do I find a fuel station along my route??

The fuel stations that pop up are the ones naar or on the route. If You’re driving offline you can’t add any waypoints.
So if they pop up, find them yourself or go online

This is at best an incomplete answer...

Are you sure the words are not "... while navigating a track" instead of "...while navigating a route"?

Of course you can add waypoints while navigating routes offline, but not with tracks (and therefore not with "Route-as-Track"). The message is pretty clear about that. Not being able to add waypoints to tracks goes whether online or offline.
