App doens't work when in background?

Hi all!
Am I missing something or does the App stop working if I put it in the background? Mine does that if nothing else. Using an Android TriplTek Tablet with its own cell plan and data.
If I am actively navigating and I need to bring another app up and do something the MyRoute App just stops doing everything.
When I bring it back to the forefront it has to figure out where I am on the map and then it will work again.
