POI file size restrictions??

Hi there. Is there a size limit to the files that you can import as POI's. I was trying to load "Viewpoints" as defined in OSM using files exported from QGIS. I can do this for Ireland, the data file size is 180Kb but cannot do the same thing for the UK. The file size is 1.2Mb. I can't find any file size limitation in the manual? I want to do the whole of the UK as this includes the Islands whereas identifying GB or England, Scotland, and Wales separately does not include the islands
