CarPlay unit Zoom +/- 😁 love MRA but this drives me nuts
-
So after some playing around I’ve figured out that
plus and
minus buttons on the phone screen during navigation control the amount of zoom in or out on the phone display and on the CarPlay unit. Once you’ve set it the CarPlay display stays that way. This excludes the auto zoom in settings (more on that later).
But let’s say that you want to change the degree of zoom from the CarPlay unit during a navigation. My phone is tucked away in a pocket. There is map adjustment button on the CarPlay display unit (bottom right hand corner), press that and the + & - buttons allow to zoom in or out. Great except once you press Done button it reverts back to whatever you set on the phone.
So please lovely people at MRA is it possible to adjust the degree of zoom from the CarPlay unit using the + / - control so the map zoom or scale stays as it does on the phone. Of course until you adjust the zoom again from either the phone or the CarPlay unit.

@Graeme-Moores Thanks for the suggestion!
We are indeed looking into ways to improve the zoom - 11 days later

We are indeed looking into ways to improve the zoomThis is really needed. I used MRA with CarPlay for the first time in 12 months, just to see what changes had been made since I was on the MRA Next beta. My biggest issue was no ability to change zoom from CarPlay (my phone remains tucked away).
I always use MRA for planning as it’s the best out there, but this zoom issue alone is enough to stop me using MRA over my current app.

@Dae-0
I can only confirm this. I was in Sardinia for 5 days in mid-October and wanted to follow a recommended route. The Mayrout app cannot be used without the zoom function in Android Auto. I finally had to drive further using Google Maps. It's a shame because your app is the best for tour planning - 3 months later

I have this problem too. This app needs the ability to + / - when using Android auto.

@Corjan-Meijerink Is there already something in the pipeline concerning the zoom option on the Android screen? I'm new to MRA and discovering it on my motorbike with an Android Auto screen. Like the others, I don't have the ability to either zoom in or to zoom out on the Android screen. There is no + or - symbol somewhere visible or hidden on the screen. On the phone I can zoom in and out and even move de map but that has no influence on what happenes on the Andried screen. When I switch to Waze on the screen, I can zoom in en out and also move the map around so that proves that even with Android Auto it is technically possible since Waze (google) can make it happen.
Yesterday I let the App make a roundtrip of 80kms for me. I started following the route but on the screen I could see the blue line of the track only just in front of my position and I was not able to look a bit further away (no zoom out option). When I still had to do 72kms of the track I suddenly mist a tuning point and the app recalculated the routing but since I could only see a very very little part of the track (just ahead of me) I did not know where the recalculation was going to guide me to. What I saw was that i.s.o. having 72kms left I suddenly saw 122kms left. I pulled over, took out my phone and looked what was happening. Since I was familiar with the region I was able to find back the track but you will not be happy when you encounter this in hte middel of nowhere. This I could have discovered if I would have been able to zoom out on the Android screen. I continued struggeling a bit and then stopped the routing and continued with riding from point to point where I had to enter a new point every now and then which is a pitty. The system has a lot of potential but there is still some room for improvement I guess (and read in the forum). -
@Hennie-Bours yes, we are definitely going to add those zoom buttons! Bear with us till then!
-

@Corjan-Meijerink That will be brilliant … looking forward to that release… Thank you

Zooming under CarPlay works with the MRA at least it is confirmed in videos.!!
That means it is currently only missing under Android Auto, so it is still being developed there?

@Hubert-Thoring Sadly not on CarPlay either. If you have the wonder wheel maybe you can zoom in and out whilst following a navigation, but for us non-BMW riders, we’re looking for plus and minus button on the CarPlay/Android Auto screen so during navigation we can get the desired zoom in or out based on what we would like at that time. Some of the view modes (plan, north up) you can fix the zoom level on your phone, but once your phone is tucked away in your pocket you can’t adjust without stopping, taking your phone out and adjusting it that way.
Maybe all bikes should have a wonder wheel

Wouldn't a BT keyboard, for example, like Remotek One also be a good solution, because with it, the zoom -/+ can always be set independently of other hardware, so it also goes to the mobile phone on every motorcycle, from the tank bag. I did it under e.g. CarPlay on the mobile phone via Zoom in the car as a passenger but is the same as if I had done it with the Remotek One.
Mounting example for the mirror mounting left on the GS ..

@Dae-0 I was looking at changing from Apple to Android but having this feature available in Apple carplay has made me stick with Apple. I can use the wheel on my GS to zoom in or out on my carpuride 702BS
-
@Hubert-Thoring Thanks for this…and I appreciate that some extra hardware, equivalent to the wonder wheel could do the job, but I’m still hopeful that our friends at MyRouteApp can give us a simple but effective plus/minus button on the CarPlay screen. I think the team have done a lot to make it better but this last bit of functionality would be a game changer without hanging yet another bit of hardware on the bike and sooo useful to lots of users.

@Graeme-Moores : Yes, that's right

I don't believe this works for a "tugged away" phone that is in standby mode (screen off), does it? It does work with the phone open with the app in focus indeed.

You can set this so that the display remains activated and of course with the app running.
The USB power connection for the mobile phone is important, because in CarPlay or Android Auto the power consumption still seems to be high.
For this reason, I currently remain with the pure mobile phone solution on the motorcycle as described.
In the long term, however, CarPlay and Android Auto will be the solution for all of us.

@Corjan-Meijerink Hi Corjan, I spent the last couple of days on the lovely twisty roads of north Wales. The latest release was rock solid and most importantly the zoom +/- was fantastic. Being able to set the zoom for the road ahead but change it on the fly when the route changes direct on the CarPlay unit is a massive step forward.
Thank you so much for all the hard work. It is truly appreciated

@Graeme-Moores great to read that!

The function is great when you want to see the route standing still.
For automatic zooming, it would be great if it was more dynamic. No setting, but zoom out more while driving straight ahead so you can see a big part of the route and zoom in when an exit is coming, keep the exit arrow just in the screen while zooming in from the point you are driving. Keep zooming in until you are near the exit and have a detailed view of the crossing. Once past the crossing zoom out until you see the next exit again just in the screen or the greater part of the route.
This way you get details in time, and see the most part of the route while just driving straight ahead.
