Metric and Imperial Units : experiences while driving in England and Wales
-
Reminder : I'm using the myrouteapp in a motorhome on an android head unit.
I'm currently on holidays in Wales and had planned my route upfront in the route planner. Now that I'm drive the route I need to get my head around the use of imperial units over here.
First of all, switching from metric to imperial is hidden somewhere deep in account settings. It seems to me it deserves a place in the main settings menu.
Secondly, distance units and speed units are always set at the same.
When I'm driving over here, I want distance units to be what I'm used to. For example if I have to make a turn in 300m it should say so, and not use miles or yards as I'm not used to these.
The speed units however (which I'm also not used to) are better in imperial. They should match the signs I see alongside the road. I set my dashboard speed unit of my motorhome also to miles/hour. This means my cruise control and speed match the traffic signs.
My odometer and trip counters stay in km/h.
This is probably a can of worms I'm opening and there will be many opinions as usual. But I'm trying to be helpful and give the guys at myrouteapp material to make the difference and stand out from the crowd.
