Using OSM for navigation - has it been added to the MRA app yet ?
-
@Bryn-Thomas only in the planning. Dit navigating the Here map is the only one by design
-
@Bryn-Thomas That option probably won't be implemented either. OSM does not have an SDK (Software Development Kit) for the MRA development platform (Flutter).

@Rob-Verhoeff Got it ... Thanks

Hi @Bryn-Thomas I like yourself wish MRA could use OSM for navigation but I do understand that this will not be possible due to the decision to use the Here SDK for the development of the app.
I do think MRA will be poorer because of this restriction as MRA can only be as good as the data it uses so it will only ever be as good as Here's data.
The Here map & routing data is often very bad / incorrect & can take years to be corrected MRA will only ever be so good, never perfect.Another reason why MRA will poorer for this choice is that the Here maps do not contain any foot or walking path data, so despite having a walking profile MRA will never be good to use as a walking navigation app (except in the follow the line mode which is not really navigating)
If MRA were able to use OSM I believe they would have better map & routing data & hence MRA would also be betterPS @Corjan-Meijerink thanks for updating MRA's OSM map data, it was only february when I requested for it

@Brian-McG happy you noticed
So regarding the OSM decision for navigation.
There are so many other technical reasons to add to this discussion that I still fully stand behind the choice for HEREAre there drawbacks? Yes! But trust me if I say that if we wouldn’t have used HERE, we wouldn’t even have this app yet.

@Corjan-Meijerink I understand with engineering the perfect choice is often not possible & a best / compromise solution has to be the choice,
I therefore also fully stand behind the decision to stand behind the choice for Here -
high Brian,
I must really reject your statememt
… The Here map & routing data is often very bad / incorrect & can take years to be corrected MRA will only ever be so good, never perfect.I am not in a relationship to HERE, this first.
Here was with TomTom on the first Data collector for Navigation Systems for Automotiv in private use. Read the history here
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Here_(Navigation)
Here based on the company Navteq founded in 1985.
see here https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navteq
May some of these research on Wiki basis are not correct in detail but the main content is, this is the common history of HERE.
HERE is Data distributor for the who is who in Automotiv industrie, so the names listed.
I was at a user meeting of an German employee of Here and he explaind who Here collect data. This was very impressive.
And like all other companies who are working with data distribution they have Status dates for data packages, which and this is now the main gate for errors, final customer find, the seller of Nav Systems buy.
The content of datapackages could vary, some Here customer wants only road datas, others order even the data of the „roads“ in parking lot of supermarkets. And finally the status dates and updates.
Here himself change thousands of thousands of attributes per country daily, but important with verifcation and has therefore a lot of collection offices arround the world, connected.
On OSM everybody can change everything. Due to this meanwhile OSM maps got a high reliability and accuracy, but is also not free of errors or sometimes „bad“ changes.
